judging from responses,

A. I can survive on the MacBook....although, as some have alluded to, the fact that I am coming from a Dell PC, it will be akin to Donald Trump having to "survive" in a 10 room beach villa

B. The MacBook is a very functional machine, the Pro is just a much more refined version of the same.

C.  I'm likely getting the Pro because my wife said so

Thanks Everyone

Check to see if your company has a corporate deal with Apple.  Many do and sometimes "forget" to tell their employees.  Every Apple store has a book with the names of companies they have deals with.  It doesn't hurt to ask.  Good luck.

I've been converted about a year ago.  I have one more reason to choose the pro.  The case will disipate heat better.  The old style plastic cases on the MB, get so stinking hot, you might not want to rest it on your lap.

As a tech guy, I see pretty much as many screw ups with Macs as I do with PCs. Instead of lock up/ctrl-alt-del it's spinning color wheel of death. There is no escape! Usually lots of blue screens mean hardware failure (memory, drives) or just heat.

Samsung or Quantum or whoever, makes the exact same drives that go into your mac or into your PC. Both have the same chance of failing. Power units and graphic cards, same thing. You can run Windows on a Mac, you can run MacOS on a Dell. It's all the same crap in different boxes.

I find Win7 just as stable/usable as OSX - so in the end it's what you're comfortable with, and how much extra money you have. I LOVE Mac time machine for home users though - definately get a timeport.

On a related note I just used Super Duper ( http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html) to transfer hard drives in my MBP. I do not believe I've ever used such a complete and damn near perfect item ever. Wow. Just wow.

For the record... Your Dell XPS 140 was an entry level model with Windows Media Center. It was release in 2005. It is currently 2011. Of course your new BMW is going to be nicer than your 6 year old Audi. Saying that means Audi sucks is a bit silly.

Well....I had been using Window's 7 on my daughters computer and at work, so I'm not totally unfamiliar with the newer releases of Windows.  That said I still prefer OS X much better.

The funny thing is that the features that most people like about Win7 were taken from OSX.

(I use both equally.  Honestly I have uses for both for different tasks.  Hence why I own a Mac that can run them both)
