So can I get a report on what the conditions are like.....3 of us are coming down from Wisconsin and not having been to Tunica but seeing all the pictures we are concerned about travel, road conditions, food, water etc.  Maybe I am going a bit overboard   But any info from those of you closer to the race would be so much appreciated!!!

We are going to be driving down Thursday and we are staying at on of the on-site hotels.

Thanks!

As far as I can tell everything will be dry on the race course (swim, bike or run), transition area, etc....  There should be no road closures or problems for travelling to the race.  The only drawback that we can tell at this point is that because the casinos will be closed at the time the race takes place, since they are right on the river the food and entertainment options will be limited.  The race directors have said the host hotel is putting together some onsite dining options for dinner each night and breakfast each morning.  Otherwise, it may be more like fast food or small diner type restaurants.

Appears ok from the photo they sent out.  I think everything will be fine. Some of the other hotels and casino's are closed.  Dining options may be a bit limited, but the race directors have some dining options available.  Shouldn't be any travel problems to/from the race site.

FYI....I have spoken to race officials and the title sponsor.

The race IS ON.  As communicated, the race location is on the opposite side of the Mississippi River from the levies.  Reports yesterday indicated that the water level in Memphis crested.  It is worth noting that the swim IS NOT is the river.  Harrah's has a private lake on the grounds. Not to mention, for those out of towners, the race is south of Memphis in Tunica.

In regards to the casino, IIRC, all (non-Indian) casinos in MS are on the water.  That's how the 11th hour, legislative switch-a-roo happened to legalize gambling in the state.  That is why the casino part is closed and other hotels/casinos are having issues.

x2   I am MORE than impressed with s2f's communication on this issue.  Makes me want to support them even more in the future.

Now....how to get other race director's to understand such simple concepts....

No, but the Alligators are cruising the waters looking to eat all the rats that are flooded. Just kidding about that, but there was an alligator spotted in the Wolf River (a tributary that flows into the Mississippi).

I did the Wildman Triathlon in March in Orlando and was a little surprised when I saw alligator warning signs posted at the swim lake. Maybe that's why my swim time was better than I anticipated. Looking forward to MIM next weekend.

Grass cutting? What's grass cutting? After I took up triathlon, I regularly win the tallest grass in the neighborhood award. After a bike and run yesterday (I got done about 8 p.m.) I told her that I had a few minutes of daylight and I was going to try to get started cutting the grass. She actually told me know, it'll keep! Wow, that's progress.

looks like we are going to have some crazy temps this week. I swam Sat in a lake and the water temp was higher than the air temp!

I am preparing to swim to swim with my suit and also without my suit. I honestly have no idea what it will be!

I am going to go out on a limb and say it will be wetsuit legal.  With the temps overnight in the 40's for the next 3 nights and the rain near the end of the week, I think it will cool it down enough to get under the 78 degree limit.  Just my gut feeling.

Rev3 was good.  The water was freezing...over heard Matt Reed say he thought the temp was about 62 degrees.  Bike course was crazy hilly, but fun.  I will definitely do it again in the future. I took it easy for the most part and used it as a training day.  My speeds on the bike ranged from 42mph to 5 mph.  You are either flying downhill or struggling up hill the entire race.  The climbs are not only steep, but pretty long (at least compared to what we normally ride here in Memphis).

What was that little yellow ball in the sky at the end of the day yesterda? Wow, it came back today. We'll see if it has any effect on lake temps. What a weird last few days of weather.

I agree, I think if they can find a spot to make it wetsuit legal, they will.  And I hope they do, I am alot faster with my wetsuit!

never swam in a wetsuit before, rented one today.. practiced putting it on/taking it off to get comfortable with the  process and just comfortable in the suit itself.. don't see it restricting me any so we'll see what it brings.. i'd PREFER to have it warmer, but will take what i'm dealt. just hoping for low 70s in the water..
