Drifter - 2011-03-26 9:38 PM ..every GOOD piece of workout gear on sale is always too small / short / too low a weight limit.

This one is definitely how I know as well.

You know you're a clydesdale when you get asked if you play football more than 10 times a week (this happens to me all the time) and when smaller people pass by you and you don't see them until they are at least 20 feet in front of you.

Your know you're a clydesdale when you finish a race and your 5 year old daughter holds your tummy and says "Daddy when you have your baby I want a baby brother"

Another visual for you.  You know you are an Athena when some of your riding mates look like they could be your children! (At least I can keep up with them for 100 miles!).  Kris (red vest) always jokes that she loves drafting behind me because she hardly has to pedal!  That's me on the left, of course.

When, despite training for your first HIM, your BMI triggers the following printout in your after-care plan from the doctor's office.

I hear ya. I had routine blood tests done about 18 months ago and they came back perfect.

The doc said I wasn't diabetic or even close to being pre-diabetic and my cholesterol was as low as 4 (5 is good). He was actually looking at me then at the computer screen then back at me and shaking his head. I'm 5'11 and 230lb. He said it must be something in my genes.

Hah!  I love watching  medical eyes widen as they suffer cognitive dissonance at my blood test results or blood pressure after being smarmy about my weight. Or the time the doctor suggested I take up walking a half and hour each night to get some exercise and lose some weight. And I replied innocently, "Oh really? Yesterday I rode 30 miles on a bike and swam 40 laps. Not enough?"

I would like to share something funny that happened to me at my last race.  It is the exact opposite of this thread.

I raced a half ironman and placed in Clydesdale, as i was picking up my award, the guy handing out the award goes "you're a clydesdale???"  my response was, go get a scale I bet i am about 215lbs right now, he just shook his head and congratulated me. I thought it was freakin' hilarious!!  i guess all the work is paying off.

Thats awesome.  I did the Minuteman and would have come in 2nd if I registered as a Clyde.  I am 205...But I always hope I'll be 195 by race day.

You know you're a Clydesdale/Athena when...

(This happened this past weekend at TriRock San Diego)  At the Start line, while waiting for the wave in front of us to go (wading start), the announcer tells a wave full of Clydes and Athenas to jump in the water as soon as we get to the floating dock so it doesnt sink, he then corrects himself and says that he meant because this was the biggest group, then corrects himself again and says because there are the most people in this wave.  We all knew what he meant?!?!

Also, When the largest shirt they give out is still too small

This is my personal favourite. When I first started I collected a whole bag full of shirts that would have served me better as sports bras. Now that I'm down a bit I can wear them with pride but it's sure a kick in the nuts when you finish your first triathlon and can't even wear the shirt out of embarrassment.

I was at the local running store on Saturday looking at shoes for my wife and I asked if he would take a look at mine to see how much longer I might have with them.

He looks me up and down and says, "Not as much wear as I would have imagined."  So in my mind I thought, he just called be fat but light on my feet.

you know when your a Clydesdale when your not worried about someone riding off with your bike because no one else can ride it.

You know your a Clydesdale when they say they put your wave at the end so there will be food for the other waves at the post race food area.
