Who else is racing Victoria's Du in Waterloo?

For me this race signifies the annual *start* of the multisport racing season. Its the first real gage of how ready (or out of shape) I've  become in the off-season.

Last year the weather was horribly hot. But with the way this spring is going I just hope for it to be warm enuogh for short sleeves.

Yes, I'm signed up for it again this year.  I'm hoping to shave off a few minutes from last years 1:39:36 time now that my run fitness is significantly better.  Just need to build the bike fitness up again.  I also have a tri bike this year instead of a modified hybrid..lol.  I'm shooting for 1:34 assuming the weather is on par with last year.

I am in again - for the third year.  I am always impressed by the level of cyclists there for such and early season event.  I, personally, have been passed by several 50+ AG women on the bike.  I don't have any issue with it - it's just one of the things I notice when being passed so constantly - i hope I finally get to be that speedy one day! ha!

Fun one though - definitely get different weather each year!! And the sandwiches last year were good!

I may start the season with this Tri but I haven't been training much lately ( in the past six months).

He doesn't say it's a MSC event, he said it's the start of the "multisport racing season". Wink

Only a few days away, and so far the weather is looking like.....rain. ;(  So what else is new.

But temps look to be up there.

How did it go for ya'll.

I had a fun day. The wind really made the bike ride a challenge for me - I had my aero-disk on the rear wheel and was really feeing the wind. But I took 10min15sec off last year's time so I'm feeling good about that.

I'm just glad the heat wasn't as bad as last year.

The race went well. The rain held off, I set my fastest bike time and my running is much better then it was at this time last year.

Wow that's a great improvement Mark, and it was nice seeing you again.

Unfortunately, I was 3 mins slower than last year so I consider the day a failure...lol.  But I think I've narrowed down the causes.  I ate like crap the 2 days prior to the race, and I'm carrying 23 lbs more this year than I did last year.  Something really weird happen on the 2nd run....almost seems like I might have bonked, but that shouldn't technically happen in a short race, especially when I didn't push the bike that hard....actually according to my HR data, I could have pushed a little harder.

I also did not improve my time - in fact, it was my slowest year yet but I am not unhappy with that. It wasn't a 'A' race, i had a new bike to get used to and the weather was pretty challenging.  I was actually kind of dreading the race -  i was feeling slow and out of shape (for what reason, I don't know) and the weather forecast wasn't helping.  So, i just told myself to go out and have a 'supported training day'.  And i finished happy that I did it - so that's a success.

My run splits felt good - pushing enough but also made sure to chat to a few people. I loved seeing Lisa Bentley out cheering with her dog.  Talked to a girl for a while about her training for a HIM and I think i pulled her along faster than she intended.

The bike was on my new TT bike and i think i need to adjust my aerobar length because i have to reach pretty far to change gears - and once we turned into the wind and the rain then changing gears meant some instability for me so i just went with it.  I did find the hills easier this year than last year and still though the bike course was fun!

The last run, I set out too fast but reined it in.  Near the end i started talking to a guy in VFF's who was struggling a bit and found out it was his first race ever and i'd like to think that I helped him up that last hill.

I watched the race, and did see a few of you guys out there on the course.

I thought it was pretty crazy seeing a relative unknown (Lionel Sanders) come out and crush the field, beating Bechtel's time from last year by quite a margin. I expect this new Pro will be quite a contender in any race, and I hope to see him race more in the Subraru Series events.

Most friends of mine who raced found the conditions manageable, and enjoyed the day!

I am itching to get out and race now!
