Sunny
Total Time = 1h 10m 7s
Overall Rank = 29/108
Age Group = 50-55
Age Group Rank = 2/5
Pre-race routine:

Ate breakfast, drove to site 3 miles away and drank a Pepsi. Ate one GU. Saw D Mark Swan, cooltank, trimyfisher (and his wife) in transition met a guy I work with at the pool.
Event warmup:

Rode one lap 3.13 miles, ran 1.25 miles and swam 100 yards to warm up.
Swim
  • 05m 43s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

They added some poeple at the last minute and they were in front of me instead of the 45 second gap I expected. I lifted my head too much so I bobbed in the water a bit much. My coach and I discussed not pushing it too hard so I tried to keep things at 80-85% effort to keep my HR from spiking. I was passed once.
What would you do differently?:

Hold my form better
Transition 1
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

This was one of my best T1's. No complaints. Passed the one guy who swam by me and never saw him again.
What would you do differently?:

Might try clipping in my shoes cause Fatty recommends it to everyone that wears tri-shoes!
Bike
  • 34m 54s
  • 12 miles
  • 20.63 mile/hr
Comments:

After 0.2 miles I felt great. Pushed it here as per the plan and it felt great. Passed people constantly. Shifting went well and stayed aero at least 80% of the time.
What would you do differently?:

Get lighter.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

Took a little long to change shoes but overall a good T2.
What would you do differently?:

Practice some transitions
Run
  • 27m 32s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

It went better than Buckhorn which is what I wanted. I still do not have the running miles under me. It gets better as I get lighter. Walked to aid stations.
What would you do differently?:

Run a lot more. Funny thing is looking at the stats the guy who took first in my AG and I were 1 second aopart after T2. He crushed me with a 23:05 run. So what I knew going in was confirmed.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight and lack of running due to my achillies.

Nice Podium.

How does this shoe thing already clipped in work?  You need to get some information on that!!Foot in mouth

Way to go Doug.  You are SOOOOOOO fast on the bike!  I've thought about trying to clip my shoes in, but I don't feel confident enough at this point to try to get my feet in them and get them buckled without crashing! LOL
