Total Time = 1h 45m 31s
Overall Rank = 482/578
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 11/15
Pre-race routine:

Loaded everything in the car the night before. This was a good idea for me because then I was able to relax and sleep. Got up at 5:15, drank some coffee, and ate some oatmeal and a banana. Arrived at the race around 7am--1 hour before the start of the race.
Event warmup:

Biked the beginning and end of the race course. Did a short jog.
Swim
  • 11m 52s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was VERY weedy, as I had been told. I started out pretty good for about 50 yds and then the anxiety kicked in. A tried to stay away from other swimmers as the space seemed to make me feel more comfortable. The first half of the swim took a lot of conversations in my head to get through. The swim to shore was more consistent and felt better.
What would you do differently?:

Uhhh, find a way to relax and breathe like I normally would in a friggin' training swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

Felt good about my transition-pretty smooth
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 48m 23s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 16.74 mile/hr
Comments:

Happy with my bike performance. Could be faster, but that will come with more training. Never got passed on the bike :-) Came in to the home stretch on the bike and there were my hubby, friends and my 21 year-old daughter who was holding a sign that said, "Mom, You're my Hero!" That was awesome.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Didn't want to bother with socks on the run, but I've been getting some blisters lately, so took time to put socks on.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 42m 3s
  • 3.64 miles
  • 11m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

Breathing like a freight train--if you can imagine how a freight train would breathe. Took about 2.5 out of 3.5 miles to finally get into a groove. Ran the last mile with a really nice guy, Mike. We discussed the cold beer that would be waiting for us at the finish :-) Glad he was there!
What would you do differently?:

I just need more training. I've only been running for a few months and it's just plain HARD WORK!
Post race
Warm down:

Uhhh. Need to work on this. Had several friends show up to watch the race and ended up standing around and talking instead of a proper cool down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Funny question. It's the same thing that allowed me to perform at all--training. What I've done has been good, I just need more time.

Event comments:

Very well organized and the volunteers were awesome. A great first race to participate in.

You did an incredible job today and now I am sure you can say you're just as addicted as I am!

All the time you have spent training and all the time you spent training and working through your injury over the winter and spring got it's payoff today.  You should be very proud of what you have accomplished.

I had seen your daughter waiting for you for a long time but obviously didn't know who she was.  Both Lis and I thought it was really neat that some girl would have done that........and then it was your daughter.  Very cool!!!  You should be proud of her and the rest of your family.  I enjoyed talking to Adam and actually meeting the both of you.

Well done!!!

You'll have gained heaps of experience from this race, next time you'll be much more relaxed.

You did fine and didn't give in to anxiety on the swim so congratulate yourself.

Concentrate on your weaknesses now and you'll reap the rewards next time!
