The circles are a progression of the Facebook friend list. You can create multiple circles (groups) and post things to that specific circle, for instance you can have a Family circle that you talk about your kids with your immediate family or something, and you can have a Tri circle with all your BT friends that you share tri stuff with, but nobody else cares about so they never see it. As far as I'm aware there is no limit to circles or how many different circles a particular friend can be in.

No, I don't have Google+ although I did sign up for the beta. Don't ask me why as I almost never use social media anyway.

No worries, I had to google it as well.  Hadnt heard of it before today.

No invite for me. I'm devastated. This may be the first Google app beta that I'm not a part of since I got my gmail account. I was even able get a first initial/last name address*. Spreadsheets, Voice, Wave, I was in on at the "invite only" stage on all of them. I was even sent a Google laptop. It's weird being on the outside looking in. I feel...cold.

Why hast though forsaken me Google?

* Tthis has resulted in my getting all kinds of misdirected emails, as it seems many people use it as a default "I'll try this" when they're not sure of someone's address. This has led to me connecting with a family in Ireland whom I just might be related to and who have extended an open invitation to stay with them. I regularly get the wedding/birth announcements, confirmation pictures etc.

I get this all the time!!  I'm [email protected].  I get invited on vacation, to weddings, even got a few corporate travel arrangements with a credit card number!!

Unfortunately, no one has been very nice about it.  A few people just ignored me and keep sending me things.

I already have square friends.

..I really dont want to start all over with that..seems redundent to me..but I have it and a few friends that have it. You have to be invited. From what I understand right now they are in the testing phase so they open up inviting and then close it again. Meh whatev.

Do you still need an invite? I haz those, too.

My nieces and nephews have been dropping off FB, making it much less relevant to me. Not too much longer and I can ditch the FB.

So it's kind of neat that I can selectively make comments to my various contacts/within my circle. It makes email almost obsolete and makes comment sharing easy (especially when planning events).

The mobile app is pretty cool, too.

The privacy settings make me happy.

Of the 566 contacts in my gmail contacts list, less than 60 are in my circles. I like that control. I also like the segregration of contacts using circles.
