I dont unless its something significant or funny. I wouldnt say that its annoying, as I do have a friend that posts workout, but I just dont think the majority of the people in facebookland would really see any value. I do however always post about bowel movements.

Every once in a while but I rarely post on FB anyways (or comment).  Heck, I go days without looking at it until the wife asks me if I saw so-and-so's comment or something.  It's a double edged sword.  If I get to see EVERY picture of your 8 month old sleeping or eating or at McD's then it shouldn't be a problem to see a workout or a picture of my bike :D.  I probably don't post it out of laziness.  Twitter is the same way.  I read but I've only twatted once in 4 years

Why is it that posting your BT workouts (or any workout) on FB showing off?  You're on FB - you're showing off just about EVERYTHING anyways!  Point is moot.

I figured there must have been a demand for workouts to be shared since BT developed an interface with Twitter to send your s/b/r workouts there.

Yes! This! I don't see how posting a workout is any more "braggy" than showing off a picture of your kid, posting about a promotion at work/ new job, getting engaged, vacation, etc.

ETA: I don't post every workout on FB, but I do sometimes post about going for a long run, being excited about a race, etc.

I do.

People who respond in two camps.

Some thank me for the inspiration, especially for a 240-pounder.

The ones that know when I can do better give me hell.

Either way, it keeps me on track when all your friends know when you are doing well or slacking.

Jealousy, I think.  I can't imagine the stuff that those 10 persons have posted would be any less annoying to someone else, saaaaaaaay like posting a pic of what they were going to have for dinner, etc.

the bear - 2011-07-22 8:39 AM

I log my workouts on BT, and have it set up so that a summary is posted on Facebook automatically through Twitter. I've never had a friend complain about this, never thought it to be bragginng (certainly not the training I've been able to do lately), but have had several friends take inspiration from it, three of whom have started running because of it, and I have a cousin who has dropped 60 pounds and is training for her first half marathon, in part because of that source of inspiration.

The security issue I don't understand. Workouts are posted after the fact, I wouldn't post "I'm leaving now for a six-hour ride." Also with a wife, three teenage boys and three dogs the house is never vacant.

Security issue:You have to think like a bear hunter. If I wanted a Bear I think I could find him Sunday morning around 6:30 a.m. I might have to wait until 6:49 a.m.

It's funny how everybodys views on fb are different. There's probable some generation gap. I dont think I'd ever defriend somebody for posting workouts. Maybe posting porn or those annoying games. 99% of my posts on fb are economics related (I'm an Econ prof). They usually lead to good discussions but always end with political party puppets pointing fingers. Rather entertaining.

I actually run two profiles.

My "public/professional" one and my personal one.

On my personal one, where my workouts automatically post-- all but a dozen people are "real-time" friends and family.

There are only a few BT'ers and a few people from another forum that I have friended that I do not know in real life.

I think that changes the dynamic.

Haha, my circle refers to it as "twitting yourself".  Oh mango, did you just twit yourself?

Oh and +1 that talking about tri-related things on FB is no different than anything else everyone posts on there.  I don't post daily workouts, but definitely post about races and breakthrough workouts.

I find Farmville updates 1,000,000 times more annoying than details about exercise habits.

I always find the FB posts about what someone should and shouldn't post entertaining.  I post whatever entertains me.  It may or may not entertain my friends, inspire them, or annoy them.  But, I don't post my daily workouts.  But I might post something entertain that happened on my workout.  Like the time I went biking and saw my usual 1000 rabbits, a few snakes, and the ever rare Gila Monster.  I mean really, you should always post when you see an animal that spends 98 percent of its time underground.  But I don't say anything about length/time/distance typically.

I post workouts after the fact to FB using MyMotionBased. Its easy for people to exclude from their news feed anything that comes from an app. It's the same as telling a feed to ignore posts from Farmville or something inane like that.

Let's see, some of my friends post about television shows I've never heard of.  Some post about their kids that I'm really not interested in.  I post my monthly totals, race reports, race photos, etc.  Maybe my friends care and/or are interested, maybe they're not.  Bottom line, we are friends.

If not, that what's the "hide" feature is for.

Facebook for me is an extension of my social interactions to more people than I can talk to in a real life day.  I wouldn't tell all my family or friends about every single workout face to face, so I also don't post about them all on facebook.  Simple.

I do, on the other hand, post about new things that might be workout-related that I'm excited about, same as I might share that information in a regular conversation.  "I did my longest run ever today!"  "Finished my first OLY and really enjoyed the swim!"  "Had a blast at so-and-so sports festival - here are some pics."  "New tri bike sucks the big one."

SCamp07 - 2011-07-22 5:53 AM

Fast forward to earlier this year when the feature stopped working for some reason. I had tons of people ask me if something was wrong because they weren't seeing my daily workouts. I explained about the feature not working and I just hadn't taken the time to find out why. So, I posted whether anyone wanted to continue seeing my workouts because I didn't want to be an a@@hole about bragging about how great I am because I run everyday. The overwhelming response was that my friends wanted to see them. A lot of the said that seeing my workout was the motivation they needed to get out and do something themselves.

Just my 2 cents. YMMV

I usually just post when I'm doing a race that day or if something particularly interesting happens on a ride or run.   One of my FB friends has that automatic post feature and everytime he walks anywhere it's posted.  I don't get it.  I also don't get the 'so and so just checked in to....' My life for the most part is pretty mundane...I wouldn't think the world would be interested everytime I walked into the grocery store, the post office, etc.

DanielG - 2011-07-22 2:31 AM  The world doesn't need to know every time I pass gas.

My Facebook updates would go from about 3 so far this year to just about infinite.  I'd crash the whole system.
