Sunny
Total Time = 2h 19m 44s
Overall Rank = 16/109
Age Group = 39-39
Age Group Rank = 3/25
Pre-race routine:

Emma up at 12, Luke up at 2, me up at 3:56 and out the door at 4:15. Ate 3 weetabix and 2 bananas and drank some accelerade. This seems to actually work pretty well for me. Drove fast to get there on time and got there with plenty to spare (on site at 6:15 or so, even with parking 0.5 mile away). Saw Linda in transition, then Jennifer and then Scottie and Alan, so it was nice to see some nice friendly faces. Then Brian and Susan were milling about, and Jess and Kasey. Suddenly I feel like I am starting to get to know some people. hahaha Anyway, paid my respects to the big bowl, took some pics, ate a GU, milled about.
Event warmup:

Nothing. Just milling about.
Swim
  • 25m 51s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nice swim. I actually just took it pretty easy. I haven't been swimming much (1...maybe 2 swims a week and rarely over 2K yards) so am not in great swimming shape but this felt nice. Didn't push and didn't feel dizzy in transition for once.
What would you do differently?:

Train more. Push more on the swim? I had plenty in the tank after this.
Transition 1
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Kinda slow- fussed around with my Garmin, which took some time. Still, OK transition. Nothing fancy and didn't mess anything up.
What would you do differently?:

Just go faster.
Bike
  • 1h 02m 14s
  • 23.5 miles
  • 22.66 mile/hr
Comments:

Nice ride- nothing too fancy actually. I made sure I had some legs left for the run so I kept a steady pace...not noodling but not sprint pace. I think I paced it well- had something left but biked hard enough. I caught Jess at 20 mins, but then he caught me on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push harder?
Transition 2
  • 00m 51s
Comments:

Nice methodical transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. Went fine.
Run
  • 49m 37s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m  min/mile
Comments:

Slow and hot. Pretty boring course but I just wanted to be done. Walked the last turnaround water stop to get extra water and an ice-towel. Those were heavenly. It was nice to see so many familiar faces out on the course but everyone looked tired.
What would you do differently?:

Do more running in training. I need some more miles in my legs and more longer runs.
Post race
Warm down:

DRank, drank drank. Milled about. Found out I placed in my AG so decided to stay for the awards. Should not have done that- I can live without a medal and the time would have been better spent elsewhere. Its been a rough 6 weeks with the kids waking up a lot, bad sleep, busy at work etc. so this was a good result for the amount of quality training I could do.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

General fitness and heat, but happy with the result.

Event comments:

Nice race but it would have been nicer if the kids and Becky were there. Good event for kids- lots of room to run around and a nice little beach to swim in.

Nice race for only doing maintainence training. I have always said you should be looking at doing Olympics in the 23mph range on the bike. Hell you were just shy of that even though you have not trained specifically for it.

Nice stuff.
