Goood morning and happy weekend!

Got up to workout and realized I am officially tired. Today is the last day working on the flats, thank goodness!  Quick explanation since I've been asked:  Bonneville Salt Flats are just outside my town--if any of you are racing fans, Bonneville is the Holy Grail of speed.  Every year the middle week of August is Speed Week and racers come from all over the world to race on the flats to improve times, set records, etc.  My next door neighbor runs the car wash in town and earlier this summer asked if I would work for him out on the flats hosing the salt off cars.  It's unbelievably sticky stuff plus we want to save the salt and keep it on the flats.  Part of what we earned this week will go to my cross country program so I've had my runners out there helping.  It's just been flat out hard, physical work...but fun to talk to the racers, see all the cool cars, etc.  Here is an example of one class of cars that race:

What looks like snow is actually inches deep salt...it's really an incredible place.

Anyhow...happy racing this weekend!

So jealous, I would love to take a few blasts down the salt flats or at least go to witness it in person.

Bonneville is famous! Actually, if you just say, "the Salt Flats," everyone knows what you mean. They've been setting records there forever ...

10 min walk for me today and will try for up to an hour trainer, if my healing muscle complies ...

Well I was suppose to wake up and do a 30 minute continous swim and a 60 minute run in the afternoon...but body and mind were too tired and CONVINCED me to do a brick in the afternoon rather than get up and swim, so now its become a 30 min swim/60 minute brick after work.....it def sounded like a good idea this morning but now not so much......haha...6 weeks out and counting till the Cheasapeake Man.....oh boy!!!!

LOL Thank you for explaining. I thought I had been to the salt flats (my husband's from Orem), but obviously not. And that is so not the kind of car I imagined you washing. I was picturing a mid 80s rusted, salt-ridden car from the North East that had for some reason been abandoned in the salt flats, and there must have been hundreds of them! I just couldn't get it all to make sense! lol

5.75 miles this morning. I wanted to run to the Arkansas River, just to say I had, but I ran out of road -- but kept going -- until I ran into an electric fence with a bunch of cattle staring at me. Where the dirt road 'ended' was nice soft sand, and it was heavenly to run on.

Everything felt good this morning, as I was running I kept checking everything -- ankles? achilles? calf? knee? hip? etc, and kept running through everything. Nothing even really ached today. Hooray!

I'd like to try to get a bike ride in after work, but we are expecting highs of over 100 again today, and it is truly miserable. (As most of you know.)

Sinuses are feeling good, so I should be able to start swimming again next week.

I agree.

4 miles of fartlek this morning. My week has not included anything as cool as the salt flats. Thanks for the picture, teech. It must be a really neat (if tiring) experience.

Enjoy the weekend, everyone.

Very envious of your time on the flats!  I've always wanted to go out there for speed week.  One of my favorite movies is "World's Fastest Indian", great story about racing there.

Oh, and 6.6 mile run this evening.

Thanks for the "salt flats" explanation....  I'll admit it, I'm totally clueless when it comes to racing!

4 mile run for me this morning. Felt really good!

20 Mile bike "time trial" to get my race pace set. Experimenting with raising my seat and moving the saddle forward... gained an extra MPH!

Just 9 days until my race!

Oh believe me, we have washed plenty of rust buckets, too!!!  A lot of them buy old cars just for Speed Week and driving back and forth across the salt.  I've washed everything from super cool race cars to rusty vans to mountain bikes this week.  Soooo glad I'm almost done! Ha!
