My son wants an iPad, but that is not going to happen at the current price so I was hoping that the new device is somewhere close at half the price. I read yesterday that Apple is a little concerned. They have cut their demand for new ones by 25%. Others have attributed this to the possible intro of iPad3. I might wait for the second generation since they tend to fix the "misses" that happened in the 1st generation. |

Pro 5011 Twin Cities | Subject: RE: Kindle Tablet to be unveiled TOMORROW The ipad is nice, but A) I'm not a huge fan of apple and B) there is no way in hell I'd pay that much. Plus, I like the fact that the Kindle Tablets make use of all of amazon's stuff, and will include an Amazon Prime membership. (And I've been saving my amazon gift cards for almost a year i anticipation of this moment :D) I'm not really worried about the processor speed or the lack of a camera in the 7", but I like the 10" size a bit better, mostly b/c of the ten-finger input, as opposed to the two that the 7 would have. Yet, I am torn...because I am impatient. :D I will definitely get the Kindle 4 when it comes out though. No issues on deciding about THAT. |

Champion 9407 Montague Gold Mines, Nova Scotia | Subject: RE: Kindle Tablet to be unveiled TOMORROW I currently have two tablets; I started with an 8" Android tablet with resistive screen (single touch) and now have a Playbook (7" multitouch) and a larger tablet would not be a consideration for me. I also have a Kindle (v3) and while I prefer that for reading, I have read books on both tablets. I would say part of it would depend on what you are planning to do with the tablet; for me, I wanted something that was easy to travel with but I thought that the 8" would be better than a 7" so I went the Android route first. It worked well for me and while I enjoyed the tablet and made great use of it, I just got a good deal on a Playbook and since I already have a BB, it made sense to take advantage of the deal due to the integration between the two devices. After having the Playbook for a couple of weeks, there is no way I would want a bigger device and when I want a bigger screen, then I just grab my laptop. Shane |

OTOH the OS still needs work and there are a few apps I would like to see developed (like Kindle). The apps aren't a huge concern as it will run the desktop version of most websites and other apps will come with the release of the Android player in the new OS. Shane |

I guess that the Fire will be running, nominally, android 2.1--but all the reports thus far say that Amazon has almost totally customized it. And obviously it will run all of Amazon's apps.(Maye you should switch :p :D) Hmm. I'm thinking maybe I'll look into the Fire. Then give my K3 to DH and pick up the Whitney version of the K4 when it comes out. Like you, I have the kindle app on my laptop and phone, but my preference is to read ON the kindle. |

I want an iPad mainly for web browsing and a bit for note taking, but it looks like both of those are possible with the Fire. It being half the price of the iPad is nice! But with the prices on these and having found myself a few places of late where a book would be nice AND the fact that I could conceivably forward some .pdf docs from work to review at home has me very tempted. I'm debating between the basic and the touch (not 3g). I drive to the mountains a lot and like the idea of being able to put audio books on it and plug into my car. Decisions decisions. |

There are a lot of people who just have an ipad as a toy. This is pretty direct competition to those customers I would say. |
