Pre-race routine:

Coffee, bagel, dressed, packed, put our bags in the care and down to the street to wait for the busses to the start. The ride was about 20 minutes give or take.
Event warmup:

Walked/jogged in the rain for a mile or so.
Run
  • 2h 22m 40s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

This wasn't a race, it was Julie and I getting away for a night and running together. She hadn't really trained enough for the distance so we ended up walking a lot after mile 9.

Today's theme was cold and wet with some cold wet wind.

The marathon winner passed us around the mile 12 mark.

Finishing was great, they music was the very end of TNT by AC/DC which is pretty climactic. It was blaring and it peaked just as we crossed the line.

What would you do differently?:

Nada. Had a great time. This was actually a great training run for me. Julie forced me to keep my HR in Zone 1 most of the time.

I may use this as my run time to beat in half IMs next year.
Post race
Warm down:

Warm down is a relative term here. We were cold already and had to walk a mile or so in cold wind and rain back to the parking garage. We stopped halfway in a gift shop to warm up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm not going there.

Event comments:

The day before was kind of a logistical nightmare. The host hotel was 15 blocks from packet pickup and the expo, but the pasta party was next to the host hotel.

Other than that, it was very well organized and the course is great. Mostly flat along the river (great views), a few gentle downward slopes, aid stations every mile with awesome voluteers. You could hear them before you could see them. The people at the finish line were efficient and friendly. Really good volunteers at this race.

Wow.  Great job in cold weather.  It's amazing what we'll do for a night without the kids!

Gotta love it.  Go away for the weekend but do some piss-ass little race while your there.  Just a small little 1/2 mary...no big deal.  Pffffttt!!! Maybe the next time you have a free weekend you can go to that spa at the top of Mt. Everest or something

You guys did great!  Say congrats to Julie for me!!!!!

You go!! That is excellent that she's willing to do that with you--I am most impressed. Of course, this could be an indication of how seldom ya'll get away without the kids, but hey...

And your time with lots of walking is not too far off of my time, not walking, in much shorter races. Wooo--good for you. For me? Hmmmmm.
