Piggpen was my radio call-sign when I was in the service... It started because I used to go 4wheelin in the desert with my friends who all had trucks. I on the other hand had a Jeep, and if you have ever driven a jeep in the desert sand with the top down and doors off I don't need to explain much more... At the end of the day I actually had that little cloud following me around. When I signed up for yahoo back in the mid 90's Piggpen was taken and it suggested Piggpen35 so I took it... I use Piggpen35 for most of my online accounts so I don't have to remember 25000 user-names!

My OTHER user-name is altitudejunki because i like to climb mtns.

Cool thread.
I lifeguarded for six years, and taught swim lessons, and swimming is my best event, or at least when I signed on last year. Plus, it's easy to remember. And I like the way chlorine smells, but chlorinegirl sounds, um, cheesy.

A number of years ago I frequented the website Marathonguide.com When setting up my profile there I thought CalgaryRunner would be a good profile name as it would tell people where I'm from. Since then I've just continued using it when required to set up a profile on other sites. When I complete my first Tri - maybe I'll ask to be changed to CalgaryTriAthlete....

nbo10 - 2006-01-10 2:17 PMnb -- NiobiumO -- Oxygen10 -- the Number of Oxygennbo10 short for NbSr2RuCu2O10, the first superconductor that I synthesized during grad school. But, does that sound geeky.

Holy Cow! I almost used the same name. Wouldn't THAT have been embarassing...

Stake was my call sign back in my flying days.

Stake what did you fly?

Mine was not intended to be my name, I made a mistake.  I would like to change it but I am afraid everyone would forget who I was.  BOOhoo..

If I did change it not sure what I would put.  Any suggestions?

Once upon a time, back before my heart surgery, when I was the ripe old age of 21, I woke up with a resting HR of around 170-180ish. We called my doctor to see if this was normal. "Sure it's normal ... if she were a chipmunk" was his response.

And thus a nickname was born. My old coworkers called me "Munk" for years. Now, of course, I have a shiny "new" heart and it no longer chipmunks...

Well, I got sick of using BigDaddy as I had in other forums. Plus, I'm not so BIG anymore but I am still tall (6'7". I am a proud father of two little boys ages 5 and 3. The 5 y.o. is in my profile picture. He did a triathlon last summer and this past weekend all he talked about was training for his next triathlon. Not bad, starting in February for a June race. His little brother will race this summer too.

My wife is a wonderful woman who supports us completely. Years of volleyball and basketball have left her unable to run distances but she is considering being part of a relay triathlon team. She loves to bike!

Mine is from when I get mad at being called a hick. I grew up in a rural area and the people that live in the "big city" would always say "oh you live up the mountain" like it was the name of some town or something. And they always think they are so much better than the hicks that live up the mountain.

One time when talking to a guy he found out where I grew up and said "wow you are pretty good looking for living up on the mountain, want to go out for dinner?" I was like ummm, NO.

Anyhow that was years ago and I decided to be proud of my "heritage" and called myself mtnchick and then threw the 13 on the end because of Dan Marino......

mine is a derivative of my last name. i'm a frenchy and the nick has stuck since middleschool in the form of either 'turq' or 'turqy'. i go by 'mike' and 'turq' equally in real life, and by 'turqy' online.

Mine is from my surname - Richards. If you squint your eyes up it looks a bit like Pilchards, this is then shortened to Pilch. The name then stayed as Pilch for ages (with the brief but forgettable exception of when it became wee p due to an elder brother, big p) until a gradual corruption to Pulch. The correct spelling is probably Puuuuuuulch.

In my first job out of college, I was working in the proverbial cube farm.  For the unfamiliar, a cube farm is where there the office is just simply a large open space (similar to a warehouse) and they erect a labryinth of cubicles for people to work in.

Well, I'm 6'3" and was one of the few people who could actually see OVER the 6' cube walls.  One day, some friends were standing at one end of the cubes and called my name, so I just popped my head up over the cube walls and they said it looked like a gopher coming out of its hole.

Thus, CubeFarmGopher was born.  Even though I now work from my home office, like any other nickname, it has kind of stuck.
