My roommates and I own a website - lostgods.org (which has nothing up right now, sorry).  We decided that each of us had to take the name of an old god.  My husband decided that I should be Artemis.  I use the name whenever I can, although it is often taken.

Dodger is the oldest of my two kids (who happen to have fur, a long tail and drinks out of the toilet).  Hoover (the younger one) gets a little jealous but she will just have to learn to deal!

My last name used to be Wisz, pronounced "WHIZ".

My friends took to calling me Wiszzer, and I took to calling myself that here. Has nothing to do with Cheez-Whiz, Taking a Whiz, or people named Liz. (Liz Whiz) Also has nothing to do with my perceived speed... although I'm getting faster.

My mainden name rhymes with Dingo. But I'm not going to change my screen name. I'll always be Whizzzz to you all.

At work we have a "calmdown" box. (For the special needs kids, no, it's not a box we put them in, it's a box with sensory toys in it.) I was trying to pick a name and the first couple i tried were taken. I was stomping my foot and a co-worker tossed me the calmdown box...thought I'd spread the sentiment...

I was looking for online name ideas and ended up on a dictionary / thesaurus website's entry for 'fictional names'. Micawber was a character in "David Copperfield" by Dickens. He has been characterized as an 'eternal optimist', and the name has even been used to label someone as an extreme optimist. That seemed to be an apt connotation for my triathlon hopes. Though I haven't yet read the book, I gather Micawber was also something of a good hearted rogue. The rogue part sounds interesting and I can always try to live up to the rest.

During the internet bubble days - when my company reached a market cap of $29 billion that was backed by a scant annual revenue stream of >$300 million - there was a guy on the Yahoo! message boards who shorted our stock based upon some great analysis of our balance sheet ... all the while making fun of the company.

The guy was absolutely hilarious ... and, more often than not, right.

So my use of his moniker some 4-5 years later is in tribute to this unknown, smart a** short trader that made a ton of money off of my company's ridiculous but since recovered from mistakes.

And here I thought you had simply misspelled 'Macabre'.  But that's gives a totally different interpretation then.

Gwozdzilla - 2006-02-14 12:20 PM

Well Gwozdz is my last name (soon to NOT be my last name) and nobody can pronounce it, ever.   So I would say it rhymes with quads, cept with a G,  or wads with a G in front.....etc.   The one that seems easiest for people to grasp is it rhymes with gods, like in godzilla, just do the g sound in front of wads and you get Gwozdzilla.

However soon I will be leaving that oh, so lovely name, (that I have always thought sounded like a medical term for a disease of the testicles), in the dust and will need a new nickname.  My maiden name is Albano..... talk amongst yourselves.

How 'bout "BronzedAlbano"?

Mine comes from an encounter with the local tri club. The add said training in a friendly atmosphere at your own pace... They all looked like experienced dedicated athletes...you know: tall, lean, thight muscles everywhere and freekin fast. I felt like a chubby little muffin surounded by omega-3 wholewheat bread sticks. And to emphasize i've added chipit since back home we call chipits the chocolate chips we put in the muffins. But one thing is sure....

see ya this summer omega-3...i'm training with BT support and i'll be there at the starting line, but most important i will be there to cross the finish!
