Subject: I'm a Texan!!

Got here in one piece!  I think I am going to really like being a Texan.  So far the weather is nice.  We got our stuff and I have my running shoes and bike stuff unpacked.  It is a lot differene here than in Maryland.  Things happen slower and that is going to take some getting used to.

We are living in Keller, so if anyone has any suggestions for bike or run routes, I would be most appreciative.  I guess I have to get used to saying Y'all!

Don't forget to buy a pickup truck.  You wouldn't want people to think you're weird.

Welcome y'all!

Can't really help y'all with bike routes in y'all's neighborhood but I can help y'all with finding some local races.

Hopefully I'll see y'all soon!

I believe that should be Welcome All Y'all Remember Y'all is singular, All Y'all is plural...

Welcome to Texas.   You absolutely, positively, MUST be given a proper introduction to the best meal in the state of Texas.  Go to Roanoke (not too far from you) and eat at Babe's Chicken Dinner House....trust me on this one.  But get there early or be prepared to wait.

And you can't forget about the shotgun rack in the pickup!

Why waste perfectly good beer money on a shotgun rack when you can just throw the shotgun on the floor behind the seat?

Or have one of the kids hold it.

Welcome to heaven on earth (June-September excluded).

My in-laws live in Keller, so I know a bit about it. From a Tri-perspective:

  • For swimming there's the Keller Pointe (http://www.kellerpointe.com/aquatics.htm). Lap swim from 5AM to Midnight.
  • There's an LBS there called Bicycles Inc (http://bicyclesinc.com/page.cfm?pageId=12&storeId=4). Don't know much about it. I've seen several people who bike in Keller though. The LBS could probably let you know if there are any local group rides.
  • For running, there's a pretty good running trail that goes from Keller Sports Park (North of 377 off of 1709) all the way down to Keller Smithfield, about 3 1/2 miles if I remember right.
  • For Carbo-loading, there's a DoubleDave's Pizzaworks on 377 at Bear Creek Parkway. Ask about the Pepperoni Rolls! Yum.

The LBS in Keller, Bicycles, Inc. has its main store in Bedford.  The Bedford store has been there for more than 20 years and is GREAT.  There's a guy there named Cody Brewer who has done either 5 or 6 IMs...he is very knowledgeable, and very nice.

As for Double Daves, well, that place is downright DELICIOUS....especially the pepperoni rolls!

Pizza: Double Dave's is "okay"--better than Dominoes or Pappa Johns, but nothing special.

Although it's a hike from Keller, Pastazios (http://www.pastazios.com) is the best pizza I've found in the Dallas metroplex (they have a Dallas and an Addison location). Another good choice (also in Dallas, proper) is Fireside Pies (kind of trendy and has long waits if you want to eat there).

www.guidelive.com is a decent resource for events, restaurants, etc. It is owned and run by the Dallas Morning news but you do not need to be a subscriber to use the site. I will warn you that I've found the restaurant reviews to be hit-and-miss. It's a decent site to get you started.

Good luck and welcome to the area!

HOORAY! Welcome, and check out the monster "Texas Triathlon" thread in the Texas Forum for all of our planned goings-on for our next race. That forum is pretty active, so pop in often.

(Actually, we're the coolest kids on BT. See, among others, we've had Aaron (aka JeepFleeb aka the "Flag Guy") and Brandt (OldAg92), Mr. "I-survived-a-brain-tumor-what's-your-excuse" Luis (velasqu7) and BT-babe Courtney this whole time, and pretty soon we'll have all-stars Comet and Derek and Laurie, so the rest of the states can get a little jealous. Just show them some love, it's hard for those non-Texans sometimes.)

And Peace!

You will like TX a lot.
