Did anybody see this buried in the FAQs?

3) Will there be transportation after the event from the Battleship?
NEW FOR 2012 - The event will finish and hold Transition 2 in downtown Wilmington.  Thus, there will be no need to be transported from the Battleship.  This change will make everyone's day more enjoyable.

4) How will I get my gear after the event?
Transition 2 will take place inside the Wilmington Convention Center (The same area where you collected your event packets).  All your gear will be returned to the convention center following the event and you will collect it there.

http://www.beach2battleship.com/event-info/information/faq#run

If there's a course change, it would be nice if Setup updated the rest of the websites, including the maps, to reflect that.

Wild...No, I hadn't noticed that. So no Battleship at Beach to Battleship? The route might still be a work in progress so no maps yet. This is definitely going to change the complexion of the race, at least a little bit.

The grates on the bridge into downtown are no joke...like bad enough just running on them, much less trying to bike over. I hope that's not what they're planning.

My wife and I read all about the grates last year before our race.  Everything we read said they were sketchy.  2011 was a wet bike and I never noticed the grates if we road over them.  For the run, it was rather uneventful.  The cobblestone road was rather "meh" too.  The only thing I didn't like on the run course was the train.  :-/

Borden, the grates I'm talking about are the ones on the bridge into Wilimington, not the ones off of Wrightville Bch. You're right - those are nothing. The bridge grates into downtown are about 10x longer - Remember the second bridge on the run?

No clue if that's what they're planning on changing the course to, so don't want to stir up a panic.

How does this race compare to an Ironman event? Is the on course support as good? Good place for spectators? Lots to do?

My only WTC event was NOLA 70.3.  I'll take B2B any day over that.

I can say that B2B had plenty of aid and volunteers while I was there.  The finish line wasn't AMAZiNG, but it was acceptable.

I saw lots of spectators on the run.  The bike was rather miserable and I can't blame anyone for not coming out for support.  The run was through downtown, so lots of places to sit outside, drink, and cheer.

It truely is an awesome race.

Hey all,
I posted this over on the Facebook page, but wnated to share it here as well.
For Christmas my dad made me a very lovely necklace with sand he collected from the beach on race day. I've attached a pic.
He has loads more sand and said he would be interested in making more if other folks wanted one.

I know that this question probably comes up often, but how is the temperature in Wilmington in October? I did IMKY in 2010 when it was hot as heck and everyone was dropping out due to heat and dehydration, is the temperature at B2B the other direction where everyone drops due to cold?

Just curious, I am looking at doing this race with a buddy and we cannot decide between B2B and Great Floridian.

B2B start time temps have ranged from high 30's to around 60' and peak temps have been between low 60's and high 70's. I did the half at Great Floridian several times and I think there's a pretty big diff. between B2B and Great Floridian...B2B will be run two weeks earlier than ever before this year, so I wouldn't be surprised with temps a bit warmer. Best description of Wilmington that time of year is temperate.

Good luck with the decision.

Everyone drops due to cold???  2011 maybe but every other year when it was a bit chilly to start the days weren't really all that bad with sunshine and decent weather.  With the start two weeks earlier seems like it will be warmer.  In 2009 IM Florida had very similar cool temps as they were on the same day and the same weather system had created similar conditions there too.

I'm sure the Floridian is a great event too, but don't give up on B2B because of one bad year.

The typical temp in Oct will be in the high 40's to low 50's when you get on the bike and typically top out in the low 70's. IF temps are in the typical range no one should be dropping out cause its too cold. For me, these temps would be perfect, especially if its sunny.

B2B will also be my first IM.  I am in the finishing stages of planning my training out(Fink) but can not find a half IM around the 2 month to go mark.  I was wondering what you guys are doing, if you are adding a half IM.  Are you doing it sooner or later?  I really don't want to do just a longer race type training day in place of the race.  For reference I am in Chareston, SC.  Any help would be great.

If you're willing to travel, Patriot's Half in Williamsburg VA in early September might be a good option. It's almost two months out, and has similar terrain (but usually not as windy conditions). Also put on by Setup, the same folks who do B2B.

Chesapeake Endurance Festival in Cambridge, MD has a half on windy, coastal conditions very similar to B2B, but it's just three weeks out. A number of folks do the IM distance aquabike there in prep for B2B or IMFL.

This might be an insignificant question at this point, but this will be my first time to Wilmington, and my first IM.  I want to have the best experience I can.  If the Hilton is the host hotel, which view would be better, river or downtown?  I wasn't sure if you'd be able to see anything (race wise) from either side.

8 months out, and I'm already excited.

We are staying at the Hilton river, across from the battleship. It is a great place for family members to watch the runners go out and back. There is a ferry that will take them across to the battleship side so they can watch you come in from the bike as well as finish. The only down side to staying there is getting to T1 race morning. There should be some sort of prearranged transportation to take you. In the past we stayed in a hotel close to T1, and had to hitch a ride back after the race.

I started looking over posts last year in prep for a possible go at 2012 B2B.  Now it seems that some things have changed.  The finish is no longer at the Battleship.?  T2 is now at the Wilmington Convention Ctr., does this mean that this is now the new finish?  I'm thinking of staying at Blockade Runner to give the family an ocean vacation spot.  How would that location play into the new lagistics of the event?  From what I understand these changes will make for a potential better family and athlete transport after the event.  What does everyone think?  Thanks.
