Girls,

Can you please help a husband in need for advise??? My wife has been complaining about her heart rate strap not feeling so hot under her B$$Bs. I've been searching online pretty much all day for a HRM w/o the chest strap with no luck. They make a few that you have to touch with two fingers and only registers when you do this. Do they even make such a thing??? Or do I just tell her "suck it up buttercup". Thanks in advance.

They make sports bras that hold the heart rate strap so it doesn't chafe.

What kind of strap does she have? Some people prefer the soft strap...

I've had one of the no strap, two finger on the watch hr monitors before and hated it. Mainly because to get my HR I had to stop exercising. It is not continuous data/monitoring, and I had to stop running to check it b/c it wouldn't read when I was running because of the bouncing.

Good luck with your shopping, and Merry Christmas!

I didn't like the bras with the slits in them for the hrm's.  Pm me some personal info on her size.  I may have one I can ship you.

Other than that, I've put bandaids on the metal pieces to stop it from tearing up my skin.  I haven't figured anything else out.   I'll be watching this thread to see what ideas come up.

She had the hard strap then we got her the soft strap. She likes the soft one a ton better. Do get me wrong, my wife is a pretty tough gal and all. She showed me today after we were working out and the area is completely red. If she loosens the strap she cant keep constant contact. I found the bras you mentioned but read alot of negative reviews. If one of the major HRM companies made one I believe it would be a best seller.

Is she using bodyglide?  That solves the issue of chafing from the HRM for me.

This is really it (except I like different lube, bodyglide doesn't work for me). After a half marathon where I literally had a gash across my chest from the HRM strap ... YIKES

Super-lubing BOTH SIDES of the HRM strap should help.

I just don't bother with the strap.  I take my hard HR monitor and put it under my sports bra.  occasionally I have to reposition but rarely

Ditto.  Only on the run though.  No issues on the bike.  Stands to reason though.  I also tuck it under my bra strap (all the way around) so it moves a bit less.

ETA: There is one strap I cannot wear at all though.  My Timex one is just so uncomfortable.  So it could be you just need to move to a different one, like the Garmin soft strap.  Depends on what is causing the discomfort.

I have the GarminHR  strap and I put it under my sports bra elastic and haven't had any problems.  In fact, I often forget I even have it on.

The soft strap is the oly way to go.  Make sure that it is tight enough that it doesn't slip.  I used to chaffe only right in the middle of my chest.  I found that putting a tiny little piece of soft fleece just right there solved the problem right away.  I tried one of the bras that held the heart rate monitor and found that it twisted around because it had no way of sticking to my body.  I have not seen them for years and thought perhaps they stopped making them for that very reason!

Good Luck!

Whatever you do, DON'T get the one without the chest strap (the touch with two finger kind). I had one of those and, when it did register at all (apparently I'm clinically dead most of the time), the readings were ridiculous. I had to stop to get a reading, and they never made any sense--always between 44 and 70. Once I ran HARD up a steep hill, checked at the top, and it was 44. Right. Did same with the one with the strap--170. Don't waste your money. Have her use some kind of lube, and/or tuck it into the sports bra!
