Hard to believe it's already time to sign up for some of next year's events, especially those that might fill up!

I just finished registering for the Chain of Lakes tri in Alexandria, May 5.  Probably need to sign up for Buffalo shortly as well.  If time allows I'd also like to sign up for the Timberman Tri that filled up fast last year.

What's on tap for everyone else?

Great reminder!  I know Liberty increases after 1/1.  I'll do either the oly or half there.  I am a not exactly sure after that.  I am thinking about the TriStar in Maple Grove.  Did anyone do that last year?  I am considering it a long training day for IMAZ.  Would likely be my last long race prior.  Anyone have any suggestions for either a half in July or some good olys?

Yes, yes.  Now that Christmas is done, it's time to spend money on ME again.  Gonna complete my signup tonight for the Liberty HIM and the Gear West Du (also increases after 12/31).

I love the Tristar course. There were a few issues last year with course management, but I am confident it will be fixed next year. I love the distance. Highly recommend it.

Lake Minnetonka sprint in mid June always sells out early, like by March.  I am in for my second year.

OK ~ The pinnacle for this year is Rev3 Dells so here is the schedule that I'm looking at:

05/19 or 05/20 - Chaska 10K or Gear West Du
05/27 - Stillwater HM
06/10 - Manitou Tri
06/24 - Waconia Tri
06/30 - MinneMan Tri (Olympic)
07/21 or 07/22 - Chaska Tri or Chisago Half
08/12 - Rev3 Dells 70.3
08/03 or 08/09 - Avia Austin Tri or Square Lake

For those who have done the 70.3 races (and above) I'd like your opinion on whether to do Chaska (sprint) or Chisago (70.3) prior to the Rev 3 races 3 weeks prior. Also, am I setting myself up for failure by doing the Duathlon a week prior to the HM in May?

I'd be hesitant to do Chisago 3 weeks prior to Rev3.  I just don't think that gives you enough recovery time for a 100% effort at The Dells.  I'd want at least 1 more week of cushion.  Besides, now that we're in the same age group, I'll be gunning for you at Chaska.

I can't speak as much to the back-to-back Du/HM.  It would depend on whether either of them are 'A/B' races, or just fun, extended training sessions that come with a T-Shirt.

It looks like the new course for Liberty has been posted. They're moving it from Lake Independence to Lake Rebecca park due to significant construction in the park at lake Independence. The bike course travels many of the same roads, with two laps around 115 to Hamel (right on Medina this year to tamarack, across 24) to Hunter, Cty 6, Homestead (yup, the homestead hill x2) 24 west to 19 north. The run looks like trail run through Rebecca Park.  Has anyone run out there before? Should be interesting!

The half iron course has always gone up Homestead twice.

I actually like the look of the Olympic bike, it would be nice to have a different course after all this time.

Eh.  I'm okay with the change in the HIM bike course.  Other than the 'stick' and a slightly different course around Lake Independence, it's 90% the same roads as all of the other years.

I'm more interested to see how the run will play out.  The website describes the course as an out-and-back, but the map on the site shows a two-loop course.  It looks relatively flat, but with 2 loops rather than an out-and-back, I won't be able to high-five anyone I cross paths with.  (frowny-face emoticon)

Oh, and no wood-chip hill this year!  Score!

I'm only planning on doing two tri's this year: The Chisago Lakes HIM and the Maple Grove Sprint. Nothing else really fits into marathon schedule (one in spring, one in fall).

Questions:

1) Does Chisago fill up, and if so when?

2) Does it make sense to do the Liberty Olympic as a warm up to Chisago HIM? Liberty is four weeks after my marathon (Lake Wobegon trail) and six weeks before Chisago.

I have to agree with Farlig with doing Chisago Half that close to Rev Dells and here are my two thoughts on why.  Recovery time is short unless you are using the Half as a training for one aspect ie. the swim and sandbag the rest.  Another reason is that it is a very popular race in a limited space for transitions and the bike leg might as well be draft legal.  Did the sprint last year and gave up not drafting on the bike.   Like the race overall but it needs to be capped

I registered for Lake Minnetonka Tri in June.  Nothing else yet.

Foggy, Mnrunnergirl and I did the very first Tri-Tonka last year.  It's a sprint distance only, they still need to work out some bugs, and it was a small field (First year, hardly any advertising).  Also, they have a kids triathlon right after.  I will have two kids running it..  It's in July.  Might want to take a look..

  1. Falls Du 4-28
  2. New Prague HM 5-12
  3. TC One Mile 5-17 (gives me and extra opportunity to get into the 10 mile in Oct)
  4. New Bri 6-2
  5. Liberty Oly 6-9
  6. Trinona Oly 6-10
  7. Waconia 6-24
  8. HOLT Long 7-15
  9. Chisago Sprint 7-22 (Daughter likes doing the kids' race)
  10. SuperiorMan 8-26
  11. Burrito Union 5hr 9-8
  12. Cross season, if I get another bike.

Also toying with the idea of buying a cycling license and doing some of the TT Series races to help with bike speed.

Foggy, Minneman has an oly this year?

OK, let's see what's on the slate so far:

3/17 - Get Lucky Half Marathon

4/29 - Tinman Tri, Morris

5/5 - Chain of Lakes, Alexandria

5/19 - Fargo Half Marathon

6/3 - Buffalo Oly (and Roger Waters, The Wall that night!)

6/10 - Escape from Alcatraz

8/4 - Point to LaPoint 2 mile swim, Bayfield WI

8/26 - SuperiorMan 70.3 Duluth

10/7 - Twin Cities 10 Mile (if the Lottery treats me right)

10/27 - Monster Dash Half Marathon

11/18 - Ironman Arizona!

I think that's all I have on the calendar, and now that I think of it I better now add anything else!  With IMAZ training, alot of those races are going to end up as expensive training days because I won't want to lose any time tapering or recovering.  Good times!

If anyone is interested in Door County, I received an email not too long ago saying they were at 60% capacity... They cap at 1000 sprinters and 1000 halfers...  Get on it! (It's a super fun half if you're on the edge!)

I really recommend it. Definitely a great half iron, anyway!
