Subject: RE: long course nutrition-where to start?Tysk-Ironwill - 2012-01-29 10:22 PM Speaking of keeping it simple and buying stuff at the local grocery store. Do you think normal candy bars like Snickers, Mars, Twix etc. are a good idea or do they lack certain things your body will really need during the race? I guess it is a personal choice anyway, but I am wondering because I once saw a guy who hat taped like 5 Snickers bars on to his bike. Most specialized sports drinks, gels, shot blocks, etc utilize long-chain carbohydrates that are supposed to cause less GI issues and are utilized at a steady rate as if they are time released. Simple sugars (candy bars) can cause more GI distress and are utilized rapidly causing a spike in energy then a crash. At least that is what I have ready...YMMV |
