Really not that big of a deal for me. But only you can decide for you.

You're right, it's not a big deal. But I can tell you this, in the water, you are paying for it, as something that big on your arm measurably increases drag. Try some all-out 100s in the pool with it and without it. Do 10 of them and switch the 100s so that every other 100 is with the garmin and then without. You'll see a difference.

I'm good with my swim times, and actually swim faster in races with the watch, but thanks
One or two seconds here and there is not of concern to little ol' me.

"The 910xt?"  That's a little Star Warsy for me, but some chicks may dig it.  Personally, I'd try something like "The Jabba" or "The Light Saber."

bryancd - 2012-01-25 8:25 AM Yeah, I leave my 310xt on the bike in Transition. I turn it on before I leave for the swim. I wear the wrist band for it (I have the quick release kit) during the swim and bike and as I roll into T2, I take it off the bike stem and put it on my wrist band. I never swim train with a Garmin excpet for OWS.

This is what I do. Don't want to strip my wetsuit over my 305 and I'm not going to stop swimming to look at it anyway. Keep it on the bike and switch it to wrist before T2.

If I had the 910XT I would use the swim function for OWS training, but I wouldn't use it in a race swim.

When I swim with my 310xt I tuck it under my wetsuit in a race so when I take my wetsuit off it doesn't get caught on Garmin.

That thing is monstrous.

Does it record HR in the water?

That's really the only thing I do not like about my FR60, it won't record HR while swimming.

HR is a useless metric to measure for swimming.

Wow, you must have tiny wrists.  I tried it on last weekend at my local tri shop and I thought it looked fine - let me know if you decide to sell it!

Swim training is based around pace and distance, not HR.

Feel the same way - i am not as good of a swimmer as you but i'd rather have it on.  I wear it swimming and I have the quick release so it just twists off in transition so no problem with it coming off with the wetsuit (unless it's a user error, which has occurred) and stick it on the bike.  I love setting it up for races and it's the great thing about the 310 (and now the 910) being waterproof.
