Subject: Ironman on course gel changing? I think so......

I heard things were changing so I Sent an email to IM CDA asking about on course nutrition, specifically the drinks and gel. Here is the repsonse I received.  Since they didn't respond about the drink, I took it as though the drinks will stay the same but gels might be changing. Just thought I would pass it along.

Hello Tom,

Thank you for your e-mail. We are unable to announce which gels will be on the course at this time, however the announcement will be made shortly on Ironman.com. Please stay posted to our website. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Best,

Camille Evans

There is a full page ad in the new Triathlete magazine that states "Gu is 'once again' the official gel of Ironman".

So happy to see this.  I received a bad tasting power-bar gel during Ironman Lake Placid and almost lost my cookies.  Still havent had a gel since July.

Yeah, GU is really excited to be back on the WTC courses. They sent us a big e-mail announcement last week that they will again be a sponsor for our ZOOT Ultra Team.

Just bought some peanut butter gu last night - first time I'd seen it in a store!
Will be using it in my race Sunday. How could I NOT like it?!

Bryan have you mixed it with a Chocolate GU yet?!

No, but I do sometimes have it with Choc/Rasberry Roctane! I have seriously thought about putting it on bread with some Blackberry GU as a sandwich...

Oh yay!  I'm not a huge fan of gels in GENERAL, but I like Gu a heck of a lot better than Power Gels.  Power Gels are too thick.

Cool. Love GU products.  I want to know what the liquid is going to be.  Hope that it changes from Perform to anything else.

The drink is not changing to GU this year, unfortunately, but I'm pretty happy about the gels.  :

I'll be crossing my fingers for the GU Brew or Roctane drink to come in the next few years.

this thread makes me happy.  My gut can't handle any of the powerbar product while I'm working out.  In fact, Gu is the only type of gel my tummy likes.  Guess I will need to figure out a new nutrition plan for wisconsin so that I don't have to carry a million shot blocks!  yay!

Although I am happy about this I just bought 50 Powerbar gels a week ago.  I used to use GU but switched because they had the Powerbar gels at races.  I'll be looking forward to switching back!

Now, if they can only get rid of that god awful Ironman Perform.  Can't stomach that stuff for very long.

enjoy,

Duane

Can anyone tell me if this is happening for all races this year? Would be good to know before too long so that I can get used to the new gels.

Thanks

I prefer Powerbar gels over gu and they have more sodium.

I just noticed they took powerbar gels out of the FAQ's for IMTX.

What nutrition will be available on course?
Bike course aid stations will offer the following:

  • Ironman PERFORM sports drink
  • Water
  • Bananas

There will be aid stations every mile on the run course offering:

  • Ironman PERFORM sports drink
  • Water
  • Fruit
  • Defizzed cola

Oh my stars. Bonk Breaker bars are out of this world! By far my absolute favorite bars (no I am not affiliated with them, just a HUGE FAN!). Plus they are gluten and dairy free.

And really expensive. I'm kind of surprised. But now want to do this race

Expensive is right! I wanted to try a few before IMTX, but I guess I will have to stick with cliff on the bike. Would there be any reason they would not have gels.
