Comments:

Generally, good race. It was quite scenic and overall a VERY nice ride. We rode right by the house I lived in from pre-K to 2nd grade, the deli we used to go to, and right near our cousin's house. Also rode through a lot of nice little towns along the south shore of Long Island. Passed a lot of beautiful houses farther out, around the Hamptons. Very scenic.
Kept HR in zone1 most of the time, and did 10-20 minute spurts up into low-mid zone2. The goal was to do 20minutes at the top of every hour in Z2, but I wound up usually doing more frequent 5-15minute sets in Z2. It was easier to manage with the terrain and the rest stops.
Kept drafting to a minimum, except when I tried to hang onto the end of this paceline with about 5 miles to go - these guys were bookin' it, I was able to hold onto their wheels for about a mile or two but then my HR was in high Z2 and my legs had had enough.
What would you do differently?:

Well, I need to have better muscular endurance. I think I paced it decently well. The last 15 miles were tough, but that's what I expected. My ass was sore, as were my shoulders and a little of my lower back.
Post race
Warm down:

Had a hot shower (they had these portable trucks with hot showers - it was NICE!). Got a massage - also VERY NICE!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bad musclar endurance. My parents were there - they said I was ~50-60 to reach the finish, which I don't believe. There were well over 2000 riders - I heard 2400. No way I was that fast.

Event comments:

I'd definitely recommend this ride. Very scenic, good support, good food at aid stations, and a full meal with massage, showers at the finish.

Above is only cycle time. Including rest stops, time is 5:53:36, or a pace of 17.36mph. Avg HR 141, although it was lower because that includes about 10-20minutes of erroneous high readings (I definitely didn't hit a HR of 225!!)

Nice job...a century is the only thing on this websight (so far) that I can relate to. I have done 5 centuries...2 in '03 and 3 in '04. Your time is really good...you should be really psyched I can still remember the feeling at the end so I am smiling for you

Nice Work.

You're like the endurance athlete from hell.  LOL!  I would hate to see you in my rear view mirror turning out those miles knowing that your closing in on me.  Bit by bit.  LOL!

Awesome race.  You're a freaking stud.
