Pre-race routine:

up at 4:45 am, had oatmeal and coffee, drove to meet my team mates, loaded up one car and got to the race site ~6:20am, my one teammate had never done a tri before so I was exdplainign alot of stuff to her, spent time trying to find friends
Event warmup:

swam about 300m, water felt good, a little slick on the ramp getting in/out
Swim
  • 26m 25s
  • 1094 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

had a great start to my swim, drafted off a few strong guys the first 50m, tried to keep pace with them but they were too strong, about 1/2 way through the course I crossed paths with another swimmer and lost my goggles, took me far too long to recover from that, didn't get back in my groove until it was too late, I'm a bit disappointed in my performance today; especially since I was only doing the swim,
What would you do differently?:

not get kicked in the face, it was also over ann hour from my swim warm up to my wave start, ( and about 31/2 hours since I'd eaten) I think I should have taken some Gu before I started, I started to feel a bit sluggish out there
Transition 1

Comments:

came up the ramp, passed my chip to my team mate, noticed I had cut my feet getting out of the bay

Post race
Warm down:

headed over to the park for the post race party; had a great time but missed seeing most of the other BT'rs out there

Event comments:

I love this race. It was my first OW tri last year. It is a great event. It was fun being on a team and getting my running buddies interested in tri's. :)

Great job Sue! It sucks getting kicked in the face, huh?? But you finished strong though, that's a great time. And the joy of getting non-tri folks into the sport... that's worth it by itself. Great job, and congrats on a great race!

Great Job....you started out strong.

Getting kicked in the face and losing your goggles effects all of us!!!

They guys at Final Kick were talking about this race at Mooseman and I was thinking of you doing it with your running buddies. Great way to get others into the sport!

First race of the season is always a learning exp. and great way to get kinks out...

You swam same speed as me and I swam all winter....you did awesome!

Good job Sue!  Sorry about the kick in the face and losing your goggles, but you finished strong!  I was thinking about you yesterday morning hoping it was going well and looks like you and your teammates did great and had fun

Great job! I got kicked/hit in the face too yesterday...a first for me! It took me a second to recover. Hope the foot is ok! Wow that was a long swim for a sprint...well at least the ones that I have done have only been 400-600 yds or meters. Congrats on the swim!

You did a great job, despite all the crazy nutrition/battlefield issues!!

Nice swim Sue!  I couldn't imagine having my goggle kicked off during the swim.  It really was a fun race.

Doing relays is great fun...you get to cheer everyone else on and you can go all out during your leg because you don't have to worry about the other 2 events.  Sounds like you had a fun time!!

Great job, especially after getting kicked in the face!!  (My biggest OWS fear is that someone will kick me and I will grab them by the leg and then punch them...)

No punching only because by the time I had my goggles fixed they were long gone

Great swim!!  Sorry you got kicked in the face and lost your goggles.  Think of how much faster your next swim will be when you don't lose them.    Your team did really well!

You did have a great swim, sucks about the goggles though...I agree, too bad we couldn't meet up. I didn't see the post about the BT sign until I got back. I was away from a computer. That was a great race though, I really enjoyed it, we're already talking about coming back next year.

Thought the water temps were fine, and only saw/touched a couple of jellyfish
