The cyclist was rolled onto the hood of the car and across the windshield. thankfully the cyclist didn't suffer any severe injury. The kicker is that the motorist left the scene. She was found by law enforcement and admitted she knew she hit the rider but didn't stop because she was running late for a meeting. She wasn't arrested for leaving the scene, she was given a ticket and a notice to appear.

I can tell you that Leaving the Scene of an accident involving personal injury is a crime in Florida. Leaving the scene of an accident involving only property damage is a midemeanor. However, leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury is a third degree felony maximum penalty is 5 years in prison (F.S. sec. 316.027). The requirement to stop and remain at the scene applies where the driver knew or should have reasonably known they were involved in an accident. |
