Coach 9167 Stairway to Seven | Subject: My Kitty is Missing... OK, this post is a blatant plea for sympathy. When I was a medical student I got 2 kittens at my mom's urging. Easy to take care of, 2 would entertain themsevles better than one, great pets for a busy student/future doctor/current traveling coach. I told myself I wouldn't get attached to them. Well now, 12 years later, one of them...the fuzzy cuddly one...the one that knows when you're sick, angry, sad, upset and cuddles up instantly...is missing. She stays out in the backyard on occasional nights, happy as as a kitty hunting moles. It's a fenced in back yard with no way out unless she really tries...but she's not really interested. On the few nights she has gotten out, she just lays in the neighbors back yard until someone, myself or the neighbor, opens up the gate and lets her back in. Yesterday morning there was no sign of her...we looked all over the neighborhood, put up flyers, got 2 calls for a look a like cat. The more time that passes the less hope I have. I realize it's "just a cat" and that there are lots of important things in my life to put time and attention to, but even after saying I wouldn't get attached they are kind of like kids to me. Then I got an email from my dad. My "step brother", (if one can aquire a step brother at the age of 40) lost his father 2 days ago after only finding out he had inoperable cancer 2 weeks ago. I can't imagine having anyone in my life being gone in just 2 weeks. I'm kind of bummed out today over all of this to put it mildly. I hardly know my step-brother, but he's still family. So...just getting this off my chest...hug your kitties..and your children & mom & dad because you never can get too much time with them, and you never know if today is the last day you'll see them. |

I realize that some people aren't fans of cats - but for those of us who have almost always had kitties - we understand that is not "just a cat". My "princess" and "little booger" aren't always my favorite beings - but I know how I would feel... Your kitty disappeared 2 days ago and your step-brother's dad passed away 2 days ago!?!? Hmmm...maybe - and I hope this doesn't upset you - kitty went on to his most important comforting job?!?! I do still hope you find her. And find some peace in all of this. |

Champion 10019 , Minnesota | Subject: RE: My Kitty is Missing... I'm sorry about your kitty, I hope she finds her way home soon. I would think it weird if people were NOT sentimental about their pets! I still think and wonder about a dog that an old roommate had. When his time is up, I will be very sad. |

Pro 4482 NJ | Subject: RE: My Kitty is Missing... Really sorry to hear about both the kitty and your family. No doubt you've scoured the area, but don't forget that cats are pretty good at hiding when they get scared or hurt. Crawl spaces, sheds, almost any small space can be seen as a 'safe' spot. Hope you find her/him soon! |

Elite 4344 | Subject: RE: My Kitty is Missing... Aw. That is hard. Twelve years is a lot of kitty love. I hope she turns up again. I understand. I am taking care of my daughter's cat right now. He is the most affectionate cat I've known. The dog is not too crazy about him yet, but I am already attached. TW |

Pro 9391 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: My Kitty is Missing... I know exactly how you feel. Ours ran away a while back and we were in the exact same spot. Fortunately we found him after 4 days. He was hunkered down under a neighbors deck two houses away and based on the amount of mud he had on him we think he was there the whole time. Our guess was that he was chilling out in the back yard and something scared him to cause him to bolt and then he got lost or something. I hope it turns out as good for you as it did for us. |

Even still, if you are missing a pet that you've had for 12 years, it hurts! Definitely worth the day off, and I don't believe in many days off to begin with.
I'm sending good vibes your way Adventurebear,

Thanks!!Your kitty disappeared 2 days ago and your step-brother's dad passed away 2 days ago!?!? Hmmm...maybe - and I hope this doesn't upset you - kitty went on to his most important comforting job?!?! Maybe indeed ... so sorry about your kitty. Someone gave me a "gift" of twin kitties (I hated cats) when I was very ill a couple years ago and the dog raised them and the stupid things kidnapped my life and heart. I remember to the day when Suicide (okay, maybe I should have picked a better name) disappeared ... I posted here and on FB about her. That said, definitely check all small/unlikely spaces in the neighborhood as stated. Lots of people lose cats that way as well as find them. I will say some prayers for your cat as well as beseech St. Gertrude, the patron saint of cats. {MELON PRESS} |

Subject: RE: My Kitty is Missing... Hope your kitty comes home and you feel better. Sometimes it's surprising how much our pets wiggle their way into our lives. When one is missing things are just off. Heck, I've been feeding the hummingbirds all summer and I know I'll miss them when they fly away for the winter! My cats have disappeared for a couple of days at time and found their way home so don't give up hope. Also my dog disappeared while we were on vacation a few years ago. She was staying at my in-laws in the country and on the day we were driving home she just vanished. We called the radio station, put ads in the paper but didn't hear a thing. 8 days later she found her way back to my in-laws. She was stinky and skinny but otherwise fine! This year when we left for vacation my MIL said she was fine for about 7 days but after that she started to get really nervous and whine a lot. They kept a close eye on her this time. And best wishes to your step-brother. |

Elite 3972 Reno | Subject: RE: My Kitty is Missing... Let us all know if she comes home! Princess McKitty once went missing for a day. Her outdoor jaunts are usually 2 hours or less, unless the neighbor lets her into his house. After most of the day I knocked at the neighbors house and no, he had not seen her all day. Oh dear. I walked the neighborhood, looking in the streets and expecting the worst. motion in a window of an empty, for sale, house got my attention. There she was! When we had eye contact she began yawling. I tried all doors and no dice. I went around back and saw that some openings were boarded up, so I removed boards and tried calling her. I could here her frantic above me. I had to crawl in the crawl space to the opening to the basement (which bootygirl was definitely not going to fit through). I called her some more and all of a sudden her yawling stopped and I heat a quick sharp meow! And little feet on the stairs, she jumps easily through that opening and is out in the yard in no time. For two days she shadowed me everywhere, and I have not seen her near that house again. |

Extreme Veteran 356 Albany/Saratoga, NY area | Subject: RE: My Kitty is Missing... I once found my cat in a bar after he had been missing for 2 weeks. All I could figure was that he crawled into a dumpster and ended up hitching a ride to the other side of town. A few years later he disappeared again for a month and came home dragging his tail behind him because his back was broken. I got his tail amputated and that cat didn't leave my side for 2 months. Unfortunately, he disappeared for good withing 6 months of finding him. That was almost 10 years ago and no lie to this day if I see a cat that even remotely looks like him I stop and try to call for him. I also spent 2 or 3 years combing petfinder.com looking for him. My ex-husband used to tease me about it. Now my cats don't go out because of where I live. I feel a little bad about it (and they'd be easier to clean up after) but they don't seem to mind. They used to be street kitties and were rescued so I guess they've had all the adventure they could handle. I really hope your cat find its way home. It's hard not knowing what happened. I'm so sorry you have to go through that.

Master 8250 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: My Kitty is Missing... So glad you got her back! I don't normally go on COJ but am a cat lover and had to read this. Was worried maybe she was seriously sick or injured and hiding---I've found several of my previous cats doing so and it wasn't always a happy outcome. Hope she will happily live out her old age with you. Currently raising a kitty here in Vietnam--I stepped in after his previous owner could no longer keep him, no one else wanted an older kitten, and she was going to put him down. Don't know if I can care for him long-term once I leave here, but for now we keep each other company. (Yanti, want a cat? He hunts and kills geckoes! He loves the computer, esp. Skype, and even attempts to post on BT--thus the large number of edits in my posts--there's often a lolling cat head, or a playful paw, on the keyboard!) |
