Comments:

Leading up to this race, I have been dealing with pain from plantar faciatis in my left foot and a week-long battle with gout in my right foot. I gave a lot of thought to sitting this one out, but ultimately decided to take an easy run last night and see how I felt this morning. I woke up and felt good, so out the door I went.

Given my foot problems and my lack of training lately, I had already decided that if I was able to run it would be an easy pace with a Galloway split. I started at a 13:30 place and walked every eighth minute until after the 8th mile marker. I picked up the pace slightly a little over half way and again with about two miles to go.

This turned out to be a good plan and I was happy with my results. I had a lot left in the tank at the end (honestly, I wasn't even remotely winded), but more importantly I felt no pain.

What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Not even in hindsight. I easily could've pushed harder in this race, but having no idea where the line for injury would be I didn't want to risk it.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around the post-race area for 10-15 minutes, then stretched for another 10 minutes. Iced my left foot down once I got back home. So far, so good as there is no pain in either foot.

Good job David, I'd be inclined to use Galloway walk breaks on all your runs and drop it down to 1:4

David, it would have been so easy to sit home and wallow in a pity party; but not you!  You put your big boy pants on, pulled up your boot straps, swallowed your pride, and did the Galloway.

CROSSING THE FINISH LINE IS ALWAYS A HUGE WIN - NO MATTER THE TIME.  GREAT JOB DAVID!!
