It also appeared to have limited sponsorship- i don't know if that was because LA fell out. It was literally like the same 3 commercials over and over and over again. Hawaii tourism commercial, that sunglasses company, and 1 or 2 more.

I like the addition of Phil liggett explaining the Swim/Bike/Run.  He's easy to listen to.  I  liked how Macca was all talk, and no bite.  Crowie calm cool and collected.  Good stuff, I think the coverage of the pro's was fantastic, I would have liked more stories og the age groupers though...

I may be beating a dead horse here, I didn't mind the new format, though a LITTLE more on the age groupers would have been nice.

I barely caught lew hollander near the end who I've come to expect to see at least a little bit, not so much as a mention this year, but did get a split second on screen near the end :p

I do get a bit bored with how much time some of the age groupers get, but feel they cut it TOO short given the longer format this year.

The camera effects for the interview were horribly unflattering, and too much time was spent pre-race.  Half that would have been more than adequate.

Race coverage itself wasn't bad imo.

I wish I hadn't already deleted last year.  It was much better for watching on the drainer, like racing with the pros.  This one will be more like just watching a documentary while on the drainer. Lame.

the good: the announcer explaining the courses and factors affecting each of the three sports .. thought that was neat

the bad: not enough AG human interest stories.

the ugly: the lighting in the pre race interviews. looked like blacklight

One thing that struck me is how boring/strange the pros can be.  Leanda Cave came off kind of cuckoo.   The weird lighting in the interviews was distracting, especially with Macca.   With Rinny, she's so focused on the race that the race week coverage was just... boring.    I liked the pieces about Crowie, too bad that was the last we saw of him!  They really lucked out having gotten so much footage about Leanda Cave.

In a way I liked the heavier focus on the pros during the race, because that was always light in the details.    They often gloss over the women's bike race entirely.

But yeah, with less age grouper stories it lost a lot of its appeal.  This might be the first time I've watched the Kona broadcast without shedding a tear

I just assumed those interviews were the IM crew gave them cameras to video themselves at their leisure or maybe some pre-arranged questions etc. Looked like they were filming like "Survivor Man" style- in the woods at night bad lighting etc.

I liked the two older ladies who battled in 1982 who came back and competed. That was cool.

I agree that the Julie Moss/Kathleen McCartney coverage was good.  Nice to see her back. She's such an icon.

I also liked the Julie Moss Kathleen MCartney storyline. There was an article in Triathlete that said that McCartney's womens overall winning time in 1982 wouldn't even win her current W50-54 AG today.

I liked the new coverage and the reduction in the AG stories.  The one thing I didn't like is they seem to focus too much on the race leaders and not the race behidn them.

They hardly mentioned Badman's top 10 and fastest bike plsit of the day at 46 years old, Potts awesome performance, what happened to carfrae when she caught Cave, etc.

There is a while race out there behind the leaders and more times than not, that is where the majority of the action is.

I caught a glimpse of Lew at the beginning too, but no mention of him.  I did like to coverage of Julie Moss though...

Yep, there's several years I've found.  Now I just need to find this year's, or another way to watch it, I couldn't find a TV and don't have a DVR.

I was also surprised that there was no mention of this being one of the hottest/windiest years in recent history...it was all over the twitter feeds race day but no mention now.

I looked at the 10 fastest times for each swim/bike/run all time and absolutely no 2012 times made it onto that list!  Slow year!

One more thing I liked is seeing the penalty tents.  I've never witnessed a big event, only local sprints and Oly's.  I always thought that they just deducted the time at the end of the race.  I like the penalty tent...

As far as I know... the nbc coverage isn't yet on youtube? Have you got a link, maybe my searching is horribly wrong?

I liked the fact that they had more pro coverage.  But if anything, this shows why they need to move the broadcast back to early December.  The show just did not flow well, and I can't blame them considering that they had only 2 weeks to put it together instead of the normal 8-9 weeks.

I only was able to watch the first 45 minutes or so because I had to travel but felt like it took forever to start the race.  For a minute I wondered if I had the right show on and this was just some other expose on the pros.  I'll reserve judgement until I see the whole thing but was actually getting a little bored and it's not like I haven't followed their careers, read their books, or even met a few in person.

I agree!  It was great to see these two ladies compete again.  Seeing Julie Moss sure makes helps me remember to put on my sunscreen before I go outside to SBR.  She looks much older than 53. Embarassed

YES!  Thank you!  I've been waiting all year for this!  Have carefully avoided all talk of the race (although I did eventually hear the winners), and was really looking forward to it for a final motivating push for IMAZ in a few weeks.  Was so infuriated that my local NBC (detroit) decided not to air it.

do you have nbc sports network? a lot of times if you have nbc then you have it. a lot of people dont know about it because it is relatively new. you should have it even if you don't have cable, its a free OTA channel and is available on most, if not all, cable/satellite providers. anyways they are airing it several times aver the next week. i know they're airing it:

Tue Oct 30 at 11:00 ET (tonight)
Wed Oct 31 at 7:00 ET
Tue Nov 6 at 8:00 ET
Tue Nov 6 at 11:00 ET

I'm sure there will be more after that but those are just in the next week. I'm waiting for these so i can watch it HD. not available on youtube in HD yet.
