Crystal Lake, IL | Subject: RE: U.S. Turns On Missile Defense Shield Marvarnett - 2006-06-20 3:18 PM Just to play Devil's Advocate, if we do happen to shoot it down (% says we can't), and it's still in N. Korean territory, haven't WE just performed an Act of War against a Sovereign Nation? If it's in International waters, it's fair game. But if it's not... As a former student of international politics, I would like to point out the error in your thinking. If our belief is that their launch of this missile would lead to their development of missiles that could be launched in such a way at targets that our of interest to us, then this is merely an act of self-defense, not an act of war. Second, we no longer recognize other countries as 'sovereign nations'. That term is out of date. Other countries are now considered either 'hostiles' or 'not yet hostiles' (unless they are England in which case we recognize them as 'useful'. Mr. Rove? Mr. Rumsfield? I'm ready for my interview. |

Runner | Subject: RE: U.S. Turns On Missile Defense Shield marmadaddy - 2006-06-20 4:28 PM It's a long range missile anyway. It would supposedly be into international airspace pretty quickly. If it's in international waters, that would save the trouble of using the defense system. From time of launch detection, to acquiring the target and tracking it, to release of our own weapon system, yes, I would say that the missile would be in internation airspace, or at the very least outside of NK's airspace. Besides, we would track it for a period to determine it's projected target area first. Considering that depending on the set-up of the missile, it could potentially hit targets as far inland as Arizona, I don't think that this is a minor concern. |

Which is where the defense system intercepts. |

As a graduate of Marine Corps political science studies I say Screw 'em. Shoot the thing out of the sky and ...no why not let some hotshot B-1 pilot (I've got one in mind) just do a fly by and the whole dang complex goes up. No biggee they need more cabbage fields anyway. Will the next Korean war be called Part Deux?.....jus sayin'. |

Elite 2553 Tucson, AZ | Subject: RE: U.S. Turns On Missile Defense Shield trigods - 2006-06-20 12:13 PM they have tested the thing 8 times already and so far it has a 50/50% success rate... Nice... someone better blow on the dice if Kim launches one and hope we get the good 50% chance Obviously you're not an engineer. The stuff you use everyday has been tested and failed many times before getting final approval to where you could buy it and get your hands on it. That's the whole point of testing...try something out, change it, try it again, tweak it. |
