I think you need a choice for just generally confused. I eat, write and play tennis and ping pong left handed. I shoot a gun left handed but I shot a bow right handed. I play baseball basketball golf right handed. I can bowl either way and but normally right handed.

I’m not really ambidextrous, because there aren’t many things I can do equally well with both hands. I can switch to southpaw when I box and I can play lacrosse with both hands, though I’m better with my right.
I can catch with either hand but only throw well with my right.

Batting—right handed only
Racquet sports—right handed
Shooting—right handed
Knives and most tools—right handed

Writing- left handed
Holding the telephone- left handed
I’m left footed in soccer, goofy-footed when I surf/snowboard and my left eye is dominant.

Righty all the way - except for my politics.

The psychologist I work with on the inpatient unit is a lefty. All her siblings are also lefties. Her aunts and grandmother are lefties. Her mother was a righty - but had a condition known as situs inversus (discovered years after a screwed up appendectomy) where all her internal organs are on the reverse side. I pointed out that maybe her mother was actually a lefty, but with everything being on the opposite side, her left handed dominance also ended up changing to right handedness.

I have a very strong right-side dominance. I've always done anything requiring dexterity with my right hand and used the left for gripping. I'm also right-eye dominant, to the extent that I don't have to squint or close my left eye when shooting. I do, however, lean left in a few activities, though very few.

powerman - 2012-12-18 2:16 PM You really should have ambidextrous. I eat, write, shoot (dominate eye), and wear my watch on my left. Bat, bowl, throw, fight, snowboard right.... The right handed devils forced me to conform to this backward world.... but they can't make me like it.

EXACTLY the same.   There have only been like 4 or 5 major league baseball players who throw left and bat right, btw.

What's hilarious here is that when people hand me a pen to sign something, and I reach out with my left hand to take the pen, they WON'T HAND IT TO ME.   They try to get me to take it in my right hand!

Sorry folks, I only know one way to write!  Then, while I sign my name they stare at me like I just pooped a unicorn or something.

I would have picked ambidextrous; righty for writing, throwing, shaving, hammering.  Lefty for many other things, like brushing teeth, remote control, and a bunch of other tasks.

I had some neuro-psych testing done a couple years ago, and the Doc thought I may have been left handed, but I explained my right hand was still sore from shoveling snow.  She changed her position to more ambi.

Left for writing, eating and tennis etc.

Golf or any other two handed bat sports, right handed.

Computer mouse - right handed so can write left handed at the same time....

Same when people want me to sign something they kind of hesitate when I take the pen with left hand....

Husband right, daughter right.

Mother - totally ambidextrous, dad right.  Brother left, two sisters right.

Lefty, but also do a lot of things right-handed:

Left:

write

tennis

bowling

pistol shooting

kicking/punting

Right:

golf

basketball

batted right in baseball

throwing (baseball & football)

rifle shooting

I initially learned to play baseball and golf right-handed because all I had was hand-me-down right-handed equipment.  There was some advantage to the way I learned in that the mechanics of lefty tennis backhand, and right-handed golf swing and batting are all very similar.

I learned to shoot with a right-handed bolt action .22 rifle, but was at a disadvantage because I wasn't using my dominate eye; I'm sure that's why I shoot better with my pistol left-handed.

My entre family (dad, mom & both brothers) were left-handed.

I married a lefty; my daughter is right-handed and my son is left-handed.

Me too - except the pool part. I also golf, swing a baseball bat, and do anything else with a similar stance as a lefty.

I am left handed.  I write and eat left handed.  Do everything else right handed.

The left hand is the devils tool.  (so said my senile old Italian auntie Zizi)

Well, the Latin (and Italian) word for left is Sinistra - from which the English word sinister is derived.

Does anybody know if eye dominance is tied to R or L-handedness?  I am left eye dominant, but R-hand dominant.  Just curious.

Both, kind of. Write and eat right-handed but do all sports left-handed and left-footed, and do a lot of other things left-handed. Didn't realize how ambidextrous I was until I injured my left elbow in Sept. (after which I couldn't do much of anything left-handed for at least four weeks, since with a radial head fracture and associated ligament and nerve injury, it hurts like sh...to rotate your lower arm) and found out how many things I automatically do left-handed.  On the plus side, several years ago when I injured my right hand (nerve compression from biking) it wasn't too hard to learn to write left-handed for  a few weeks.  My handwriting's not very legible with either hand, anyway. Figure I'm actually a lefty like my dad and victim of an overzealous first-grade teacher who switched me.

The Italian/Latin word for someone who is left handed is "Sinistre" which is a root word for the term "Sinister".

Shakespeare made most of his evil characters left handed. Just saying...
