I will probably include walking when it is the rest interval in a speed work out, aid stations in a race or sometimes when I am out "training" with my 10 yr old.  Otherwise, walking it tracked separately just because.

FWIW, I count all training whether it's running, walking, or run/walking.  So far this year, everything has been running but later when the weather is nicer, I'm sure I'll head out from work for intense walking.  But that's just what I do. 

Scott, you are funny!  You'll see my numbers take a nose-dive later.  My "off-season" (for run) is June - August.  This year tho, I'm hoping June - August will be swim and bike season.

Wow! So many people have signed up for this - I was not expecting this to happen at all. 

Well week one is done everybody - unless someone happens to live in Hawaii, and then you've got a little more time, but that's about it. So just to recap to keep on pace you should have run  just over 19 miles by this point. Please remember to log your runs so that we can all keep up and encourage each other. So can someone come up with a excel Google Doc... I do not know how, but they are used a lot for challenges. Everyone can update their progress. I was going to do mine weekly.

Maybe weekly update, or monthly.

Maybe a formula to give an average of where you should be... like 19.23 miles per week avg, week 23 = 442.3 miles... or monthly even. But maybe weekly would help with goal setting and accountability???

Just an idea.

Wow - that is a scary number there - I aquajogged some before and I was good for 15 minutes and then I was done - way to hang in there!!!!

Yeah, it means an average of 30 min/day.  Sigh.  AT least there was both an aquasize class, and a water polo team practicing at the same time.  Gave me something to listen to and something to watch.  Did another 15min after swimming this AM... Please, injury gods, let my Achilles heal sooner rather than later.

Hey, I just found this challenge. May I jump in here? one of my 2013 goals was to run 1000 miles and it would be quite motivational to have others working toward the same goal.

I'm at 24 miles as of the 10th, so 976 to go.

I probably should have said this a few days ago, but let me comment now. My internet up here in the frozen wasteland is pretty bad - so if I'm not responding everyday don't worry. Some days I can read, but not write, others I can't get on at all. I wasn't really expecting anyone to jump on board so I'm making this up as I go!

As far as run/walk - I will be counting my miles both running and walking - but only when I'm "working out" going for a hike, or just my normal everyday walking - no, not counting that. But when I've got the pink shoes laced up, and my stretchy clothes on, and I'm hitting the treadmill - if I need to walk - that counts. A) Don't want to be there all day and I'm not running that far yet. B) I've already increased my mileage by about 1000% and I don't want  to get shin splints or other nasty-ness.

Posting/logging - I know there is someway to do a BT spreadsheet that we can all update - but I don't remember how. If someone wants to jump on that feel free. Otherwise make sure you post in here or in your training log and I'll compile a list of where everyone's at once a week. 

New folks, welcome aboard! Plenty of room for more people. No need to ask just join the party. 

Everyone, if you would like - post a little about yourself so we all can get to know each other better that would be great. 

A little about me. I am a typical american 20 something - which means I bounce around a lot, eat pretty bad, and don't exercise a lot. I've been on BT for several years, usually setting some asinine goals like I'm going to run an HIM in 6 months with no base. Needless to say, I usually don't stick with the program. Hence this challenge. Something that can be completed in less than an hour - if I do it everyday. If I don't - this could get ugly - real quick!

I currently live 75 miles north of the arctic circle on Alaska's haul road. If you ever watched Ice Road Truckers - I'm in Coldfoot - the place all the trucker's stop halfway through their trip. I'm up here paying off bills  and figuring out what I want to to do with my life. I've been up here for a year, and leave in April. I have two plans for what I'll do after - not sure which way I'm going to end up with a job, so I'm keeping my options open. 1) Move back to Colorado and become a High School math or science teacher. 2) Get a rotational position on the slope working three weeks on/three weeks off doing some form of labor that I've got no experience in but I'm willing to learn. 

I think I've covered everything since I last posted. Hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to seeing more miles!

whoa, that's pretty cool!  Just updated my numbers, only a few miles behind the rabbit.  It's only January though, I'm still getting warmed up!

a little about me...  I'm 42, and got into tri's in 2009.  lost some weight, had fun and did some races in 2009-2011. Then took 2012 off.  Gained ~25 pounds.  Now I'm back to do it again!

I'm 27 and got into tri as a way of attempting to escape the genetics I've been fortunate enough to be blessed with. My family is plagued with all of the good stuff (diabetes, heart problems, kidney problems, etc.) so I'm doing this simply to decrease the chances of the seemingly inevitable happening. 

I've always been somewhat of a workout junkie but triathlon has helped me to harness it and truly show me that I can keep going. I ran track in college (400/800) and swam all through HS. 

Looking forward to tracking everyone's progress!

Hi, I'm Scott.  Reading Bill's post, I just realized I started logging on BT just over 7 years ago.  At the time I was pursuing a dream - IM by my 40th B-day.  Achieved that goal in 2007 and then quit doing Tri's.  I had completed a dozen culminating with IM-FL.  In 2011 I decided to do another Tri so I have completed a baker's dozen now.  

The plans I made for 2012 got superseded, work got silly for a while, I put on 20 lbs.  Had goals of PR'ing a HM but 6 weeks out, when I was way behind in my running plan anyway, I pulled a calf muscle and didn't run the month of July and only a couple of times in August prior to the race.  Toed the starting line 15 lbs over what I had wanted to be and miles and miles and miles under trained.  

Went from there to a 60 mile month and just kept going the rest of the year.  I ended the year with 5 60+ mile months and realized 1000 miles was possible.  So I set that goal for 2013 (it would break my previous high by 150 Miles).  

Challenges along the way this year will include being a good dad to my 4 kids and welcoming the surprise 5th one to the family the end of May.  Dropping that weight I am still carrying and getting below 200 for good.  Having the fortitude to PR a 10k in the spring and crushing my HM PR in August.

Hi all,

Kirsten here.  I was an athlete from the start--soccer, softball, basketball, volleyball, track and field.  Then university happened.  I kept active, but not enough to stop the weight from creeping up.  Had always wanted to run a marathon, so I finally started running in 2009 and ran my one and only in 2010.  I moved to the half distance, then to triathlon training in late 2010.  I completed several sprints, a couple Olys and a HIM last year.  I will complete an IM one day, but want to take my time to get there.

I'm currently injured and have not been running.  I had started to build but have had a setback so in the meantime I've substituted aquajogging.  I'm hoping to be back at 'er sooner rather than later, but don't want to back out of the challenge unless I really have to.

Looking forward to supporting and learning from everyone through this challenge!
