Robert Plant, about 1988 or so. He played the 10 songs you expected to hear and left. Like he was punching a time clock at work. Inspiration = zero.

The Sugarcubes in Daytona Beach, 1988.

Bjork playing for a Spring Break crowd. It was just weird and shrieky. I mean, even for Bjork and what she tried to pass for a band.

I went and saw a band called the Gas Giants. It was members of The Gin Blossoms. They came out played two original songs then played covers the rest of the show. Non of which were Gin Blossom songs.

Dylan in the early 90s. Completely incoherent. He was two minutes into "Blowin' in the Wind" before I recognized the song.

I have seen him in stellar performances before and after that night, but he must have been on some special sumthin sumthin for that show.

Grateful Dead Shoreline, summer of 95.  Generally a big dead fan, but I'm not convinced Jerry knew where he was, much less what song he was supposed to be playing.

In the awesomely bad category would be Tony Bennett and the Phil Collins big band Montreux '96.

I have never seen him live, and that is the reason why.  I have never heard of the great shows.  Just iffy and really bad.

Same thing for me, probably in the mid - late 90s though.

Another was Dave Matthews by himself and acoustic. The crowd absolutely ruined the whole thing for me and I have not really listed to DMB since.

This will surprise some of you but the worst concert I ever saw was The Dave Matthew's Band in November of 1996.  He was either drunk or stoned or both and was terrible!  Pretty much ruined it for me and I haven't been a fan since!

I would probably go and see this now if I saw it offered. That is a whole bunch of awesomeness!

Of course I wouldn't drive further than about 15 minutes to do it.....

When I was in collge, my friend convinced me to go with her to take her little sister to see New Kids on The Block (1990-ish).  The little sister decided the morning of the concert that she no longer liked NKOTB...why we didn't tell her that she didn't need to go to the concert if she didn't like them, I don't know.  Instead, we made her go...so it was us (who had no true desire to be there) and the little sister (who also had no desire to be there).  It was bad.

Eric Clapton in 2008.  Started out playing some old blues tunes which were very good, but crowd really ruined it, as they wanted to hear classic Clapton so lots of talking and moving around.  When he finally played some of the classic hits, there was no energy.  Played them like it was for the 10,000 time, and I'm sure it was.  Also, he had zero interaction with the crowd.  Saw him 3 times before and it was always a great show.

1984/1985 - Thompson Twins and Erasure. Man does that music not hold up well. Even 30 minutes after it was released. And Andy (lead singer of Erasure) dancing around in a leather thong will remain etched on my retinas forever.

I saw the Counting Crows at the height of their lead singer Adam Duritz’s “OMG, I can’t deal with being a celebrity” meltdown, shortly before he went on meds and into seclusion. He was openly hostile towards and derisive of the crowd. When people clapped or began to sing along to a song, he would stop singing and walk offstage until they stopped, and at one point, told the cheering crowd to shut the eff up. I was a huge fan at the time, but it was a long time before I could even listen to them, and I’ve never bought another of their records.

Ha! My wife and I just saw Erasure last year-- thought it was a ton of fun, in large part because of the crowd. I think you have to be in the right frame of mind. Drinking helps.

Tom Petty, Mannheim Germany - 1982.

Petty was so drunk/stoned that he forgot the words to some songs and the concert was delayed when he fell off the stage.

Skid Row in the early 1990s. Can't remember who they were with; but I didn't have enough drinking money to make it enjoyable.
