Oh yeah, little girls become young ladies, and that is a "tough" time for all involved.  Being the Dad during the young lady portion is tough separating young lady from mom, is sometimes a fun task.  Hormones, oh the hormones.  Wife is crying, daughter is crying, and other daughter not involved at all is crying because her big sister is crying.

But, having the 23 year old come and sit on your lap and give you a hug and say hi papi, I LOVE you!!! brings it all back.  The 19 year old was less of the young lady, or had a shorter spout of it, or I worked through most of it, or something, but she was not as bad in my memory.

They come back, and you will notice it.  My 19 year old is now married and I shed many a tear that day, and will probably be worse at the older one.

I have three daughters, 13, 11, and 6.  I'm still cool to them, they let me kiss them goodnight, and they can't sleep if I don't tuck them in.  They still think boys have cooties, care more about sports and school than what they are wearing, and for the most part are very respectful to mom and I.

Is this just a set up for the whole "bigger they are, harder they fall" thing?  Sealed  Seriously, I'm scared.

Funny my relationship with my dad was always the same - I didn't get the teenage attitude with him more so with my mum but even then not really.  I cruised through my teenage years pretty much - probably coz I was out working at 16 so had to grow up pretty quick.  Sure we had a few arguments as my taste in boys was a little out there! I was always trying to shock but they were unshockable it seems.

I still have an amazing relationship with my dad (and my mum) - I live overseas and my parents are getting old.  I cherish every moment with them especially my dad - it's a special bond.

Now I'm all teary and need to go phone them!

I have 2 daughters ages 13 and 17.  The 17 year old hasn't really gone through that stage yet.  She still calls us mommy and daddy.  And sometimes she calls us "Madre and Padre".  We call her "daughtre."  Haha.  However our 13 year old started thinking we were uncool about the time she turned 11.  It's hit or miss with her.  She loves us dearly when she's sick or wants something.  I've been told that the 13 year old is more in line with what to expect when raising teen girls.  My friend's daughter is 25.  She told me that when her daughter turned 12 "aliens" abducted her.  They returned her when she was 20.  Good luck!  But above all, enjoy your daughter and all the stages she brings with her.

I get my first name sometimes.  She's 4.  She's never been a daddy's girl.  It is depressing.

My oldest turns 10 in a month and my youngest turned 8 in November.  I guess I'd better get us signed up for the Father/Daughter dance before its too late.

That is just Awesome!!

As has been said, they do come back at some point, even the tough cases.  Count yourself lucky if you have one of the easier ones.  I know I wasn't.

The three of us were in Target last year. Anna threw me out of the bra section because "This is a girl thing and I can't be there". I still laugh over that one

Wow, my daughter thought my first name was daddy until she was about 6 probably

I think it's a phase where she's learning that people have names other than Mommy, Daddy, Granndma etc... She's starting calling everyone by their first name.

Cook her up some bacon for dinner and she will call you whatever you want!

Thought of this thread today.
In my Facebook feed this morning was a friend (more friend-of-a-friend from a past life) who has a teenage daughter, obviously not a great relationship. He posted an entire email exchange between them about her unplanned pregnancy, and her desire to be out of her parents lives completely.

Please Dads, no matter how your relationship twists and turns with your daughter, maturity and respect will trump all. I couldn't decide who behaved worse, the language the daughter was using toward her father, or the father posting it all on Facebook. Wowie.

My daughter is 14 and ...she is still my little girl. Despite being almost as tall as her Mom. I still sing her to bed at night. 12 year old son too. I get hugs and I love you's. When I am away like right now in Taiwan, she tells me sings her songs to herself at night. They both hold my hand and are not embarassed by public displays of affection.

It may change, but I enjoy every minute of this. Very blessed!
