Here's some interesting stats on Flacco and how his career numbers rank among other active QBs (AR stands for Active Rank), and how his 2012 season not only compares to his career average (read...not much improvement), but also to the 4 other QBs who are currently considered elite without much question.

In that situation there is the upside of younger guys like: Luck RG III Then there are other guys, some have had more sucess, some have more upside, some have performed at a similar level: Ryan Newton Rothlisberger Stafford Romo Wilson Kapernick Rivers How many QBs on that list would you take for your franchise before you got to Flacco?

 

As a Seahawks fan, I'm offended you left Russel Wilson out of the rookie category, but I'm still not sure how I feel about Flacco. I'd like him if he were mid-level priced at say $10-$14M/yr but not at the $20M he's going to get.

That because I had Beastmode on my Fantasy team and Wilson vultured his TDs So if BAL offers a straight up trade Flacco for Wilson, do you make the deal?

Talent wise...I'd have to think about it.  Defensive Coordinators usually take a year or so to really figure out a player's weaknesses and are able to game plan against it...especially with an unusual player like Wilson.

Salary wise...considering that Wilson is playing under a rookie contract drafted out of the 3rd round and Flacco is about to make $17-20M per with $50M+ guaranteed...it's not even a question.  NO GM WOULD TAKE THAT TRADE!

It would be a no-brainer.  Baltimore would have to pinch themselves.  There's no way Seattle would be dumb enough to trade Russell Wilson for Flacco. (and this is comin' from a U. of Delaware grad!)

I wouldn't trade Wilson for anyone. Not Rodgers or Luck. In case you weren't paying attention, Wilson got better by the game. Against Atlanta, the defense was bad, Beastmode was injured and Wilson had the best game of his career, pulling ahead 28-27 with 30 seconds left.

I'm thinking about getting a tattoo of his face on my back, which would look silly if they traded him (not really). I'd like to see him spend his entire career in Seattle.

Didn't the Browns records stay in Cleveland?

Yes.  Technically, the Browns never left Cleveland, the old and new browns are the same franchise.  Modell got all the Browns player's contracts, but Baltimore entered the league as a brand new franchise.  The Browns franchise was deactivated for a couple years and then reactivated once the new ownership and stadium were in place.  That's why the Ravens can have their safety wearing #32, even though it was retired by Cleveland to honor the second best RB of all time.

So basically, all Flacco's franchise records prove is that he's better than Kyle Boller.

This is a very influential list of QB's!

Well...since Flacco didn't know the rules, or what the refs would do...

The palpably unfair act rule gives the referee full discretion to decide what should happen when such events occur, up to and including awarding one team a score.

The following is a survey of the NFL rules pertaining to palpably unfair acts, and the occasions when they might have (or in the case of two college games, have) been called.

(Note: to my knowledge, there has never been a ruling of a palpably unfair act in the NFL. The NCAA rules are similar enough that college games are included below.)

Rule 5-2-8-c: Penalties for illegal substitution or withdrawal … for interference with the play by a substitute who enters the field during a live ball: Palpably unfair act (see 12-3-3)

Rule 11-2-1-e: A touchdown is scored when … the Referee awards a touchdown to a team that has been denied one by a palpably unfair act.

Rule 12-3-3: A player or substitute shall not interfere with play by any act which is palpably unfair. Penalty: For a palpably unfair act: Offender may be disqualified. The Referee, after consulting his crew, enforces any such distance penalty as they consider equitable and irrespective of any other specified code penalty. The Referee could award a score.

Furthermore, I'm pretty sure that Roger Goodell would have had NO MERCY on Flacco if he had done this.  I wouldn't be surprised if he would get a multiple game suspension and a multi million dollar fine.  It's not just about the game, but his actions directly influence gamblers on during the single biggest event that is gambled on each year.  The NFL would not openly admit that...but they cannot deny that a huge amount of Super Bowl viewers have money invested in the final score, prop bets, block pools, etc.

But...since it didn't actually happen...I'm sure Goodell will send a nice little memo to all NFL teams about the the issue.  No actual penalty other than Flacco looking like a dbag.
