I was thinking of setting up an OWS at Lake Strom in the second half of August to help get ready for SC HIM. Anyone interested post here. I'll try to firm up dates after we get some replies.

I'm in, of course. I'll be in Covington the first weekend of the month for a century, but anyother weekend would be great.

So far the 26th is looking better for most folks. (Sorry Smarti). I'm riding the Covington Century as well. My house is out on route 28 so I was also thinking of a cookout afterwards. Lemee see what the wife thinks.

I'll probably have a long bike scheduled that morning.

Would this be a morning event or afternoon event?

I'm planning on coming.  I have a wedding on the 26th later in the evening so it depends on what time.  My friend Charlotte will be in town that day (also on BT) She will probably come also.

I was thinking morning event on the 26th. The swim and bike distances can be planned to suit the folks who show up. We will need to decide which park on Clark's Hill Lake would be the best. The roads around there are quite hilly. The road right near the lake is very good and new. Yall give me some ideas for a distance after the swim (I was thinking 25 miles or so but We could do more or less or have multiple groups). I still need to talk to my wife about sponsoring a cookout afterwards.

Maybe we could convince some of the Atlanta BT'ers to come too!

OK. I've been given the green light to have a post event BBQ at my house in Evans. We will have our new gas grill. I would provide most food and some beer and people can also BYOB. So far I have one support kayak for sure and either a second support kayak or just the second kayak with the need for a pilot.
If Jim gives a clinic that would be great! The only park I have been to on the lake is Mistletoe, but there probably are some closer to Evans/Augusta.

Per RG, I think anyone who wants to come can come, but we may need some more folks to watch out after swimmers and I may need help with food and setup if things get bigger than 10 or so. (I guess we could get a party ball).

I think Mistletoe's a great place to have it. Everyone knows where it is (even the Atlanta BTers that have done the race there). With kayaks, we could swim out into the lake (I think there's an island we could swim around). There are good roads for cycling...we could use the TTP race course and do multiple laps. And we could even just cook out there at the park (I know bluejack wants to show off that new grill, though).

Mistletoe it is. I wanted to have the BBQ at my pad because I have a nice big yard and a decent sized deck. But we can do cookout at the park. Whatever the consensus is is fine by me. This can be the first meeting of the Augusta, GA Tri-club, AKA The TriMasters! JK.

This sounds like fun, but it's the same day as the Peachtree City Sprint, so I won't be able to make it. Maybe next time!

Ok after mucho feedback here's the plan. August 26th.

Morning OWS with laps 500, 1000 (and maybe 1500) with variety for different levels of swimming. Jim can give an OWS clinic if he would be willing.

Maybe some transition work together before the ride (?)

Looped bike ride around 25-30 miles at a moderate pace (16-18 mph)

Return to cars.

BBQ at my house which is nearby. I have a huge porch and a big back yard.

I'll provide a good beer, some basic grill goodies and condiments. Other people coming can bring chips and potato salad or whatever.

I was thinking 8AM start time so we can get some sleep and it will be lunch time by the time we finish.

Directions soon to follow. Even people not swimming and biking can come to the cookout, just give me advance warning so I can buy the right amount of stuff.

Sounds like a great plan.  I'll bring chips.  Most likely my wife and daughter.  Anything else we could bring?

Jon and I will be there so count me in for 2.  I can bring whatever you want.  I can make an easy summerish dessert if you want.  Or bring a fruit salad.  Just let me know!

This is going to le lots of fun- I can't wait.  There's nothing better than an OWS on a hot summer morning, followed by a bike ride and eating lots of good food and hanging out with BT'ers!!
