Subject: Who else makes weird stuff just because they can?

I used to do it a lot more before I started spending all of my free time being active, but I've made some strange and even occasionally useful stuff.  From a robot for a Nasa moon dirt digging contest to a pneumatic nerf gun that left a huge welt on my kid's head.  (before you cry abuse, the little **cker had it coming Wink).

Yesterday, on a rare day off of all things active, I made a bluetooth cassette adapter to listen to music/phone calls/audio books over my car stereo.  Yes, my car has a cassette player.  Having to plug in this thing that looks like a cassette into my phone is a pain and the wire gets tangled and the end keeps breaking.  So I ripped the guts out of a cheap bluetooth speaker and hooked up my wired cassette adapter to it and now have a wireless gadget.  Why would I order one for $30 when I can build my own for $45 in parts?

I don't do that. I usually just end up working aruond my yard when I have free time. It needs a ton of work. Right now I'm planning my garden and making lists of all the material I need to get it set up.

I guess it depends on your definiton of "wierd."

I used to be involved in Martial arts and made imitation practice weapons for practice purposes. I work as a Technology teacherand over the years have built a fair number of pieces of furniture and rocking horses and other toys.

I have built staqe scenery and puppet theaters and a launcher for water bottle rockets.

Some of the more unusual things I have built are catapults and trebuchets. Two yeas ago I built a T-shirt cannon for use during football, basketball, and volleyball games.

I am also helping a group of students to build duck calls.

I also built a smoker out of two 55 gallon barrels.

Do any of these count as wierd?

That reminds me that I've been wishing I had the time to convert my roomba into a robot lawnmower.

Building anything is cool and fun, Verga.  I give you extra cool point for the tshirt launcher and medieval weapons.

I've been working on creating a music video for use on the trainer. Using my synth and Garageband. It's pretty lame so far... If i come up with something cool I'll make you guys try it out.

Weird? Not really. Pens, bowls, boxes & spin tops on the lathe. And around Halloween, I also make wands.

For years I have wanted to take an old exercise bike, remove the "stand" add another wheel and take it out on the road. The lack of brakes or steering could be problematic but thats okay.

I need to check on craigslist now.

I also make Halloween stuff. But I focus on props not costumes. I made all 3 of the props shown below.

When we lived in western NY I made a scarecrow from some of my hunting clothes and an empty bleach bottle for a head. I sat it next to the porch in a lawn chair for the week before Holloween.

Holloween night I switched places with him and scared the bejesus out of some of the neighbors when the "scarecrow" came to life.

For me, it's canning condiments. Indian eggplant pickle relish, peach basil jam, lemon pickle.
