Subject: hydration options on a P2

I just did short-course races last season and was fine with one bottle on my down tube, but I'm doing my first HIM in the fall and will likely need to carry more water. I have a Cervelo P2 with an Adamo Road saddle.

I've been working with my LBS on this, but unfortunately none of the hydration options they stock work with my bike -- the one aero bottle they carry doesn't work with my aerobars (they're fixed in place), and the behind the seat options they carry don't work with my saddle. So I will need to order online or from another shop.

I know there are a lot of P2 owners here -- specific hydration options that work for you?

What bars do you have?  You can zip tie a cage up there and use a regular bottle.  You might have to decide how you want to place your bike computer but that's about it.  It's the easiest and cheapest thing to try.

Edit: also if you don't want to get your bars all dinged up, you can put some electrical tape over the areas where the bottle and cage touch.

+1 on a zip-tied cage between the aero bars

I also have a P2 and I use the Xlab Delta 300 in the rear. LOVE IT! Pricey but it does come with the Gorilla cage...

P2 and Adamo Road here, too. I have an X-Lab cage between the aerobars (not realizing at the time that zip ties would probably do just as well). I've been happy with that solution.

I also have a P2 with adamo race saddle.  One bottle on the down tube, and a cheap metal cage zip tied between the bars.

There's quite a few options depending in what you're most comfortable with. As others have said, you can use ties and do the BTA option (most aero option- but can be difficult with certain setups, ie short extensions). There's also the xlab delta 300 which works with your p2 (single bottle tucked under your Adamo which is shielded well from the air).

Sorry, I can't post pics from my phone. I rave an Xlab Carbon sonic wing rear and an Xlab torpedo mount front. I found them as returns at my local tri store and picked them up cheap.

The setup between the bars is what I have, but it all depends on how comfortable you feel taking out the bottle drinking and returning it while aero. If you think that will be too complicated you could try something like this:

or like the torhans

If you have a bike computer be aware of how you will set that up, too. I put a PD aerodrink on my P2 last year and I'm not happy with how it interferes with being able to read  the Garmin 800. It's mounted too far back to be able to read properly in aero.

I really like the new PD bottle, though. Speedfil standard and an Xlab wing might work well, but with two 22oz bottles that's over 5 pounds of weight.

I can squeeze an aerodrink between my aerobars on the front, but your bars may be set a little narrower.  On the back, I have a Minoura mount with two bottle cages (I have used it with both an Adamo and a Cobb) that has worked out well.  The Minoura mount is very cheap, too, as far as hydration options go...

Afletcher - 2013-04-26 8:31 AM Speedfil.  40 oz.

This is what I have along with a zip tied bottle on my aerobars.  Works fine.

yep, another with a zip tied metal cage between my bars.

I keep the nutrition in the down tube cage, and water for exchanges up front, often times the bottles at exchanges are smaller, so just bend the cheap metal smaller to hold the water bottles at exchanges.

Thanks everyone! I'm leaning toward a cage ziptied between my aerobars. Not sure what I'll do bike computer-wise...currently I use my Garmin 610 on a mount on one of the aerobars.

I use the torhans up front and the single rear behind the seat delta 300 or something its called by xlab. I use the torhans for sugary goodness (im type 1) and the rear takes the exchange. Heres a pic below, not sure how to post a pic here, copy and paste doesnt seem to work and i dont post here that much.

Really, in a race, I think you only need one bottle. Aid stations are typically every 10-15 miles. I have my aero drink and just dump water or sports drink at aid stations. When on long training rides I take several bottles (x lab wing with 2 and one on downtube), but on race day I don't want to carry 2 or 3 more bottles and the extra weight associate with them. Just my .02.
