Up at 5:30. Breakfast of toast, PB, honey. Tea. Banana.
Event warmup:

Had an issue with my disc wheel, so had to get it fixed, thanks to the race support guys!
Swim
  • 22m 7s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim. Led out the wave. First 250 or so there were a few guys around but I managed to break free after that and put some distance between me and the pack. Then it was just buoy to buoy. Finish was in a boat house/boat lift so that was a bit awkward getting out but not too bad.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

Pretty smooth T1. Wetsuit got stuck on heel/timing chip for just a second.
Bike
  • 1h 06m 22s
  • 24.5 miles
  • 22.24 mile/hr
Comments:

Decent bike. Got caught at mile 3 or so, and tried to keep the guy in sight. The rest of the ride was pretty uneventful. Just try to keep the power up and the legs turning over. Nice to see folks on the out and back.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder. Minute or 2 faster would be nice!
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

left shoe wasn't real smooth going on. took some readjusting.
What would you do differently?:

get the shoe on faster.
Run
  • 39m 51s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run. Was running a bit scared since I knew I was in 3rd and there were some guys that looked fast back there. Kept 2nd in sight but couldn't gain on him. Got up to speed and kept the pace high the whole time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...one of my better runs in a tri. Actually a 10k PR by a second!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothin' much.

Event comments:

Good inaugural race. Nice location. Hope it grows and becomes a staple on the calendar!

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

Knowing where the fluids are, how they will fit on your bike, how much to reach for, and when to reach for it should be understood prior to ever setting foot on the course.
