RIP, Minister of Defense.

Have you ever heard his famous (infamous?) clip where he talks about his signature head-slap? I don't know if "funny" is quite the word, but it's uh...interesting, that's for sure. Here's a clip. The host talks for a minute before it plays.

"I developed a term that is used in the game right now called sacking the quarterback," Jones is quoted on NFL.com. "Sacking a quarterback is just like you devastate a city or you cream a multitude of people. I mean it's just like you put all the offensive players in one bag and I just take a baseball bat and beat on the bag."

This says it all I think.

When I was a kid the Rams were my favorite team. I remember watching them on a little black & white tv with my Dad every Sunday. I loved the Deacon.

In my mind it was the glory days of the NFL and the Deacon was the best of the bunch. Such intensity. He was one of my heroes. RIP.

When I was a little kid, Deacon was a beast. Crushing the opposing team. RIP big man.

My parents had season tickets to the Rams back in the day.  I remember going to a game and this guy broke his leg, then walked half-way off the field before he sat down and motioned for help.  Deacon Jones was the first football player I remembered by name because of that injury.  RIP Deacon - you introduced me to football, sportsmanship, and what heart really meant.

Total health and fitness are about more than eating healthy or hitting the gym. I believe in a holistic approach that includes the mind, body and spirit.
