Comments:

Had to remove my wetsuit, so T1 was probably a little longer than it could have been. Of course I've never been fast at transitions.

Going out was uphill and into a headwind. Coming back wasn't. :) Overall a good bike. Effort level was just right.

Comments:

This course was absolutely short! Everyone I knew had 5.40 on their Garmin, just like I did. No way I was running sub 9 for that 10K. I know this because when I kept looking at my 0.50 splits on my Garmin I was on pace for a 10mm. Got a side cramp with 2 miles left to run. I just jabbed my finger in it, hunched over and kept my pace. I hadn't seen any pass me in my AG so I thought I might place. I got 4th, which I'm OK with since 3rd was 15 minutes faster than me! Ha!

Event comments:

Overall it was a good race. I like the location being close to home an in an urban area. The roads are pretty good which is nice. A bit disappointed the run course was so short. Very odd. My other complaint would be that they didn't have a selection of food for the racers after the race. The only free food was BBQ sandwiches, which is great if you eat meat. I do not. I could have bought something from a vendor, but I didn't bring any money. Who knows, maybe there was food I could have eaten and I missed it because I was standing around cheering for people I knew still racing. Oh well, I'd still do the race again!

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

My first attempt two years ago was not so successful when a deck nail found its way into my foot a week before the race. But I kept plugging away the last couple of years to stay healthy and get back.

Knowing where the fluids are, how they will fit on your bike, how much to reach for, and when to reach for it should be understood prior to ever setting foot on the course.
