Total Time = 1h 26m 23s
Overall Rank = 102/296
Age Group = M45-49
Age Group Rank = 11/17
Pre-race routine:

Got there early to get a good transition spot. Turned out that everybody wanted the same row and the bike stands were placed to close together for two people to set up their transition spots
Event warmup:

Jogged for 15 min and then rode the bike for another 15 min. No swimming since they didn't open the lake until about 20 min prior to the start.
Swim
  • 21m 24s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 51s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim time included the ran to and from the lake
What would you do differently?:

I waited until all the males went and then got in the water because it was my first open water swim race. I then had to swim through the floaters and backstrokers. I would start more in the middle of the pack to avoid this
Transition 1
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

I thought I was pretty quick for the first wetsuit removal in a race
Bike
  • 34m 41s
  • 20 kms
  • 34.72 km/hr
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I seemed to push myself as hard as I could go for my limited training
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 27m 19s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 29s  min/km
What would you do differently?:

Work on running faster. Even though it feels hard to me many can run faster than I do

I have always been an athlete, growing up playing team sports like basketball and soccer. I also ran in a couple of 10K races every year, so I had no reason to worry about running a 5K...right?

After I left the running store, I couldn't stop thinking about the sprint tri and how much of a challenge it would be for me. So instead of joining a gym, I started riding my bike and it felt great.

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I am not going to buy a tri-suit before my first tri - I want to make sure I am going to stick with this before I spend a lot of money on it so I want to figure out what will work best.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
