Subject: RE: Have you ever been to a wedding that didn't happen? Right after I got out of college, my coworker/corporate housing roommate at the time swears that when he went out of town one weekend for a wedding for a close friend from high school the following happened. Since most of the groom's friends were no longer living in their hometown, they decided to have the bachelor party the night before the wedding so they could all participate. Might as well have been asking for a disaster. The groom passed out early on during the bachelor party and after he was out, everyone started talking about what a big mistake he was making as none of them liked his fiance. In a drunken burst of inspiration, they decided to take action. Important note, this was well before 9/11. They drove the groom to the airport, emptied his pockets, checked the departure board for the next cross country flight (they were from outside of Pittsburgh, I believe they chose Phoenix), carried him to the counter and told the clerk that their friend was supposed to get married the next morning and they couldn't find his wallet or ticket, but they had enough cash to pay for another one if she could help them out. The next thing the groom knows is he being woken up after the plane was back on the ground and it was a few hours before the ceremony was supposed to start. He had to call his parents collect and have them arrange for a return flight. The wedding had to be rescheduled and the bride forbid any of the friends who were at the bachelor party to attend the 2nd attempt. I always wondered how long that marriage lasted. |
