Subject: Have you ever been to a wedding that didn't happen?

I was watching a show recently and the bride changed her mind after all of the bridesmaid had walked up the aisle. It got me wondering...has anyone actually been to a wedding that started and then it didn't happen? Did someone actually speak up?

Just curious...

I wanted to save a friend from a marriage that we all knew that wouldn't last, but they flew to Vegas for the marriage.  Never seen it actually happen though.

Never been in that situation, but we were on our way to a wedding that was cancelled. Since I had already taken time off form work, we quickly found a different hotel in a city along the way and made an impromptu vacation out of the long weekend. Worked out well for us and the would be bride also.

Well, watching the video tape of my wedding, lightning was in evidence the whole time and thunder boomed each and every time someone tried to speak, no matter what was being said. You can hear the pastor say about two/three complete sentences out of the entire ceremony.

I think God was trying to tell me something.

No, but we had one wedding couple we photographed that did not return to pick up their proof album because they had already split up. That was less than two weeks.

No, but I had to call off my wedding after most of the arrangements had been made and the save-the-dates had already gone out to everyone.  Found out the ex was sneaking around behind my back, not literally cheating but sowing the seeds.  It was pretty embarrassing.  I didn't even really know the protocol for something like that.  My mom called the family members, I talked to all my close friends and emailed the people I don't talk to as frequently.  All in all, people were nothing but supportive.  My mom said the family didn't even ask the reason, just offered sympathy and wanted to make sure I was okay.

That D-bag did me a massive favor though now that I'm married to an amazing guy who is absolutely perfect for me Smile

Drove all the way up to Maine for a wedding.
The couple had already agreed that they would be separating, but since people were arriving from all over the country they should just go through with the ceremony.
I am pretty upset because I did some very regrettable things at the reception/after party that my wife still mentions today.

Not Quite, but I did attend a wedding where the groom got so platered between the ceremony and the reception that he passed out before everyone even got to the reception hall. It was a weird scene. Everyone kind of milled about and wound up leaving shortly afterwards.

If it didn't happen then it wasn't really a wedding so, in truth, nobody has ever been to a wedding that didn't happen.

Right after I got out of college, my coworker/corporate housing roommate at the time swears that when he went out of town one weekend for a wedding for a close friend from high school the following happened.

Since most of the groom's friends were no longer living in their hometown, they decided to have the bachelor party the night before the wedding so they could all participate. Might as well have been asking for a disaster.

The groom passed out early on during the bachelor party and after he was out, everyone started talking about what a big mistake he was making as none of them liked his fiance. In a drunken burst of inspiration, they decided to take action.

Important note, this was well before 9/11.

They drove the groom to the airport, emptied his pockets, checked the departure board for the next cross country flight (they were from outside of Pittsburgh, I believe they chose Phoenix), carried him to the counter and told the clerk that their friend was supposed to get married the next morning and they couldn't find his wallet or ticket, but they had enough cash to pay for another one if she could help them out.

The next thing the groom knows is he being woken up after the plane was back on the ground and it was a few hours before the ceremony was supposed to start. He had to call his parents collect and have them arrange for a return flight. The wedding had to be rescheduled and the bride forbid any of the friends who were at the bachelor party to attend the 2nd attempt.

I always wondered how long that marriage lasted.

OR, has EVERYONE been to one/at one?

I guess I could technically be at a wedding that's not happening in my office at this exact second?  Cuz I'm looking around there is definitely a wedding NOT happening, and I'm here.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.
