Destin, Florida
United States
Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 10/241
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 3/26
Pre-race routine:

I woke up at 5:00 and ate a PB and banana sandwhich. I got to the race at 5:30 and set up my transition. I was feeling really well and knew what paces I could keep.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 04m 22s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

The course was parallel to the shore with 1 buoy towards the end that you turned right at and went back to the shore. There was a pretty strong current the whole way which make it feel like I was going much faster than I was. Signting was slightly difficult cause we were swimming right into the sun. I couldn't see the buoy until it was about 40 yds in front of me. Overall it was a really nice swim. I did the usual 100-200 yd sprint and held a quick pace the whole time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

This was my first time trying out a flying mount in a race and everything went well. I think it saved me about 30 seconds. I'll definitely stick with it from now on.
Bike
  • 23m 51s
  • 8.5 miles
  • 21.38 mile/hr
Comments:

The course was a out and back with a small loop thrown in. It wasn't too bad but a little crowded on the 2nd loop. I pretty much stayed to the left and just passed a ton of people. The course was completely flat and fast.
Transition 2
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

This was almost my first flying dismount into T2 and I had no problems.
Run
  • 17m 57s
  • 2.6 miles
  • 06m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

The course was an out and back and was extremely flat. I started out pretty quick then settled into a steady pace and picked it back up with around 1/2 mile to the finish. I felt good throughout the whole thing. The race description says 3 miles but my GPS watch said I only ran 2.6.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water and gatorade. Ate some red beans and rice after about 45 minutes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I felt really good about this whole race. I don't think I could have gone much faster.

Event comments:

Overall it was a nice race. I'm kinda bummed they had to change the race location this year but hopefully next year it will be back in it's usual spot.

I had a problem with someone in my age group and his bike split (he would have averaged 28 mph but actually only did 1 loop). I email the RD but nothing got changed cause I noticed it a few days after the race. I officially placed 4th but the RD agreed with me that I was actually 3rd.

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.
