Are you planning on going to Tempe to volunteer?   

I only ask as from what I've heard, there are more volunteers this year than there are registration spots, so the registration process may not even make it to the general public to be able to sign up on-line.

I've heard the same. I plan on volunteering next year.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that one - but my (general) understanding is that the regular spots will go first, and then registration will turn to the foundation spots. 

From what I've read over on ST, so far for registration for IMAZ 2014, you have some people already registered for next year after the debacle with the sign up for IMChoo, then the athletes racing this year will get to register, then the 4,500 volunteers.  Yep, you read that right... there are currently 4,500 people signed up to volunteer and after racing IMAZ last year, I can tell you that most will be trying to line up for a registration spot as early as they can.  The people at the front of the line camped out all night, and when we got there at 5am the next morning to get finishers jackets... the line was already snaking through the park that held the expo.  

I guess that was a long-winded way of saying that I don't even know if there will be foundation spots available after those that volunteered sign-up, but maybe there's a wait list for that too, like there is for Chattanooga?  

The Active site WTC uses for registrations went down almost immediately when registration for Choo opened leaving a LOT of people not knowing if they had registered or not, or having to try and register twice, or kicking them out after registering, or it had them in a "holding" line for hours until getting kicked out.  As a way to try and keep its customers happy, WTC offered those people affected by the debacle first crack at signing up for IMAZ or another WTC race (maybe FL? I don't remember) for 2014.  

IMFL went on line and it had some of the Choo debacle folks register early, current athletes, plus 400 spots for the Augusta 70.3/IMFL Race Ready package the week before the race.

The registration line was long but it did go on line. AT 10:45 the line was gone and tent empty.

The idea that 4500 volunteers all want to register is so not true. Many athlete families volunteer, local community groups, seniors, locals, and more.

Options to get in:
1. Race ready package Thursday before race sign up for 70.3 and 140.6
2. Volunteer and sign up
3. Try to get in normal registration on line
4. After general registration it goes to community fund slot for $1300

Traveling to volunteer to sign up is expensive. You could sing up for the RR package to get in and it is less than community fund slot. If you choose not to do the 70.3 you would likely get small refund.

THat's probably a good call.   And good timing about 8 weeks prior.
