Do you leave them home under the care of a neighbor or friend, kennel (day trips), or try to bring them with you? Depends. For our dog we have available to us a pet sitter/friend that stays at the house or kennel. For the cat, when we take the dog with us, we use us the pet sitter/friend.Edited by Donto 2014-02-03 1:37 PM |

Expert 2098 Ontario Canada | Subject: RE: question for those with dogs Our dog almost always travel with us there have only been a few rare occasion when we have had to board them at the kennel, My preference is to bring in a pet sitter and let them stay at home if they Can't come with us. |

What a great video - he must have been happy (and tired) after that run! I like the trail you were on, where he can just run free!! Thanks for sharing! He's a cutie! |

We think she came from a puppy mill and it feels like such a breach of trust. If we can, we get someone to stay at our house. She doesn't get along with my in-laws' dog, so that isn't an option. |

Um, you did 10 miles. He probably did 10.4. I keep meaning to put a Garmin on him and compare our efforts. I do have a vest that I attached a Contour camera too. Doggy Cam can be pretty fun to watch afterwards, really makes you wonder just how they see/smell the world different than we do. Some of the places he'll get into make zero sense to me. |

Master 1366 PNW | Subject: RE: question for those with dogs We actually sent our dogs to a local trainer and they each stayed for different amounts of time depending on their individual needs. Then the trainer worked with us extensively so that we could continue with their good work. The also get check-ins once a year (our first one is coming up). Originally posted by Swim Chick For all of you with dogs, or any major pet for that matter, what do you do with them when you travel? Do you leave them home under the care of a neighbor or friend, kennel, or try to bring them with you? We take ours to a kennel. We've thought about a pet sitter (we used one when we had the farm) but I think it's too much to ask to have someone walk three large dogs twice a day. Our dogs love the kennel we use (we call it ' camp') so it's no hardship on them. It is a HUGE blow to our wallet though! The cat gets boarded for anything longer than a weekend, otherwise, he can stay in the house alone. When I had just one, it was easier to bring her with me but with three...it's impossible. |

434 | Subject: RE: question for those with dogs IMHO, unless your dog is a reliable "running dog" (which our Beagle/Lab mix is not), dogs interfere with training time, family time, and couple time. I could easily pass on having a dog. The only reason we have one is that my wife wants one - and most times I think she would rather have the dog than me! |

What, exactly are you doing all of those times that the dog interferes? :D |

Yeah, if you don't dogs, she probably would. |
