Subject: Garmin Fenix 2 - Max Pool Length
We have a great pool in Vancouver called Kits Pool that is 137.5 Meters, or 150 Yards long. My Garmin 910xt can't be set to more than 100 yards or meters, and it only accepts whole integers (no decimals)I looked at DC Rainmaker's review for the Fenix 2. In one spot he says you can set it to 149 yards/meters and in another spot he says 150 yards/meters. Can somebody who owns a Fenix 2 please tell me if it's 149 or 150. I'm assuming they still only accept integers, so I'll have to use 150 yards? Or if decimals be used on the Fenix 2 then that would be even better. I'd rather see my pace per 100 meters than pace per 100 yards.

I looked at my Fenix 2, using the custom pool length I can set both 137.5m and 150yds.

I didn't know there were pools so big!

Crazy!

Also, I'd always heard the watch doesn't work to wear it on your wrist, but the last race I did registered a great signal, have you tried that with your 910XT (that's what I have) in OWS mode to see if it works? Not trying to talk you out of a new gadget, just wondered.

It's an awesome pool.

Mike and I were there yesterday and he did have the watch in OWS mode.

I also have the 910xt and I always put it in OWS mode when I use it there. It works as well as any open water swimming. Normally doing front crawl it gets enough data points each time you bring your arm out of the water. But the GPS still seems to get lost -- I should try the swim cap method.

Here's my swim from yesterday: http://www.strava.com/activities/164120881

Oddly, even with the zig zagging, and my total distance was pretty close. It seems the short ones averaged with the long ones. I did 7 laps, so 1925m (about 1.2 miles). The lap list in Strava shows only my moving laps, not the rest "laps".

I like that the Fenix can have longer lap distances, but I've heard the run data isn't as good with that watch. I wish Garmin would do a firmware update on the 910xt to fix that. Lots of people want shorter than 20m or 20 yards, too (for things like hotel pools).

that's not a pool :-) this is a pool

http://www.viralnova.com/worlds-largest-swimming-pool/

0.6 miles (1km) long covering 20 acres in total

It was especially designed for triathletes that couldn't do flip turns

Having trouble seeing the lane lines.

If 149 vs 150 is going to be that big of a deal, would it be possible to contact DC and ask him? I would guess he'd like to fix such a discrepancy in his write-up.

Not sure why, this post reminds me of a scene from Caddyshack '...pond would be good for you"

How do you determine VO2 max for cycling? I have my HR zones from a time trial, but don't know how to get VO2 max out of that.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.
