Pre-race routine:

Nothing special, ate a modest "lunch" at midnight. Had a snack about 3 am to help keep energy levels up.
Event warmup:

Walked from the "office" to the start, about a 1/4 mile.
Run
  • 57m 5s
  • 6.96 miles

Comments:

Started out a little fast, slowed down but had trouble settling into a comfortable pace. Finally was able to settle in. Tried to maintain pace but the field thinned out after the first lap so had to push to catch the next person. Around 5:30 it started to heat up. My pace was bouncing around a lot, was able to push a little, but the race was about 45 minutes after I normally run so not used to the extra heat.
What would you do differently?:

Carry a bottle of water for the first lap.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked back to the "office" changed shirt and went and ate breakfast.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat, tried to push the pace more than usual for the 7 miles. Not used to holding the faster pace for 2 laps.

Event comments:

Pleased with the race, pushed a lot but did not hit my goal. Target goal was 8:00-8:10 PPM, did 8:12 so barely missed it.

Wow, nice work, Jonathan!  Surely the heat played into you being just a little off your desired pace, buy IMO you should still be very proud of your results!  Congrats!

Great job, as always!!  Missing your target goal by 0:02/mi. isn't too shabby, especially given the less-than-ideal conditions.  Keep up the super work!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had weight issues. I remember standing on the scale as a child weighing 60 pounds and feeling fat. My family dealt with stress by eating.
