It seems there is quite a bit of interest to get OWS training at Jordan Lake. So, I started a meetup group and posted my scheduled times.

http://www.meetup.com/Jordan-Lake-Open-Water-Swimming-Meetup/

Feel free to join, or if you have a group that goes, please let me know and I can get your times added too.

Thanks!

Thanks for making this group. I joined it, but I won't be able to join you for any swims until my ruptured ear drum heals. Do you have any idea what the water temps are or what months races are typically wetsuit legal around here? Was Raleigh 70.3 wetsuit legal? I'm planning on doing the Finish Strong tri on sep 12th and I was wondering if I would need to get a wetsuit or not.

EDIT: Do you ride with a bike lock for the swim?

dang, sorry about your eardrum

Water temp was 79 deg yesterday for Raliegh, so not wetsuit legal. Raleigh 70.3 has gone both ways in past years. I think Finish Strong Half in sept is same, borderline . You'd be fine without a wetsuit comfortwise. Generally, a wetsuit makes for a faser swim time tho!!

It depends where the race is whether wetsuit legal or not. Generally, in the central NC area, late may through late sept will not be wetsuit legal. But ocean or mountain races be different due to cooler waters.

And, yes, I bring a small cable bike lock on my bike/swim/bike workouts. It's a family environment at Ebeneezer, and very safe. (now i've gone and jinxed it)

Adding my thanks for creating this meetup group.  I've found a facebook group that swims at Beaverdam, but that's not exactly the most convenient from my place in Apex.

Can you link the beaverdam group in case it's not one that carol already linked? My eardrum is healing up and I should be able to swim next month.

I have Bontrager Race Lite wheels. I was looking into renting Zipp 303's or 404's for race day for Ironman Lake Placid. What time will I save?

I am running Boston in April and Ironman Lake Placid is in July. I have been told that it is ambitious to think about doing an IM so close to a marathon due to the recovery time. Any suggestions?

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.
