Is there anyway to avoid having such a drippy nose on the bike? How often do most people have to blow snot rockets? I feel like I have to clear my nose every 5miles or so, or else I just can't breath! Am I weird?

YES

I actually have to do that often biking and running, but then again it might be because of my sinus problem...

Thanks for the honesty- and here, all this time I've been going through life thinking I was normal- what a shocker!!

For those with allergies, is there anything that works to dry the nose out without becoming drowsy? I use flonase and it obviously isn't working.

While running the whiterock half with Jeepfleeb, we had just begun to be passed buy the professional runners on the full at about mile 11 (no, Aaron is not that slow, he was pacing me at the time). A few had run past and I was pretty congested the whole day. Kept blowing snot rockets and spitting nasty crap. It was a huge annoyance for me, and I'm sure Aaron was thrilled. Anyway, I turn and spit a messy glob to my left - not a tight spiral, but a thousand spittled piece of snot and saliva in a spray - right into probably one of the hottest runners I've seen. I comp[letely covered this poor pro head on with my mouth and throat spooge. It was so hot.

She did not hunt me down after or worse, stop to berate me for it right then, so I'm assuming a little spit among friends is accepted and, under certain circumstances, expected.

I raced motorcycles until '01, and during a race once, I turned my head and spit...

  • ..right into my face shield.

  • I did get spit on at the Old Hickory Tri last weekend, I just though it was a personal thing.

Or expectorated, as the case may be.

I usually aim to the right between the handle bars and my knee.  Never hit anyone that way.

ugh.  allergies...  I'm allergic to tree pollen, so spring is one non-stop nasal drain. The only med that works for me is Allegra.  It's not cheap, but it's the best thing for my hay fever.  two pills a day for two months.

Ok not to hijack the thread because this is still about bodily fluids ... but ...

Do people really pee while they're riding and running?????

I'm clearly new to this triathlon world, I haven't even learned to spit yet, or do snot rockets. What a sheltered life I've led.

My pet peeve is guys that spit in the swimming pool - they do it along the channel at the end of the pool, as if that's not going to come back in to the general water circulation. I know that none of you on this board would do that

I don't normally feel the need to spit, but snot rockets are a necessity, particularly on a cold winter run.  I like the term too, I've always called them a "dustman's blow" but I guess maybe that doesn't translate that well....

I just try to make sure no one's too close behind, but there is an art to not ending up with a snotty shoulder.

Yeah, because spit is the worst thing you'll be swimming in.

I know we are spitting but snot rockets came up.  Here is a little thing that may help some of you snottier BT'ers.  I know as the weather get cold I'll be ordering it.
