Fortunately it was a hot day so I didn't have to strip down. |

Extreme Veteran 909 Westchester, NY | Subject: RE: Is body marking a requirement? My last couple of races, they marked me. I wear a sleeved suit and calf compression. So you really couldn't see anything they "marked" me with. I'm doing IM Raleigh in June. I'll see what happens there. |

I am very fair and putting on sunscreen seems to make the marker not stick at all. It's there when they mark me but as soon as i put in my wetsuit it rubs off. I am definitely not foregoing sunscreen in any race - my dad's had skin cancer. Anyway, I've never gotten any warnings or any other kind of trouble for not having the body marking. Though, i am such a goody-goody that i get it done anyway. Besides, i always read other people's calf, it is fair that they see mine. |

They check bike #s against racer numbers (body marking or bracelets, depending on what the race uses) to be sure no one is stealing another racer's bike. If you are that adamant about not being marked, email the RD about the rules of being marked, especially concerning bike removal from transition. |

I said lost and found. Not trashcan. Lost and found as in a separate folder where numbers aren't legible. |

Wow, this thread is quite the reads, and all over not wanting to get body marked? it's simple, If them is the rules, then get it done. I don't see the point in not being able to listen to my ipod on the run, but its a rule. Some of the races I do, I'd like to go shirtless, but I can't cause it part of the rules on certain races. So to me it's an easy one to answer. If it's a rule, then just follow it.
P.S. I have even brought my own sharpie and marked myself cause it said I had to be body marked. |

I have to be marked...................................in some way. I'll comply with that. The sleeves on my tri top are white. The outer legs on my tri shorts are white. I have no interest (nor do I see the point) in staining them with permanent marker ink. They can mark the back of my hand, and I'll be in compliance. Thinking out loud...........what would stop a thief from buying his/her own magic marker? I think that's why they want to see our race numbers  I didn't think it was a big deal, either. Someone (I assume, from this site) posted the same Q on "that other site". I didn't read anyone on that thread (I think it had about 100 replies) who is in favor of being marked. I really didn't think it would be controversial. |
